nina kraviz // ghetto kraviz

Even if Muscovite Nina Kraviz wasn’t scintillately hot would I still gravitate towards her music? Hell YES! Although she is quite the eye-candy, it her skills as a DJ/Producer/Vocalist that’ll keep you drooling on dance floors or in the comfy confines of your very own chill pad (hopefully not alone). Ms. Kraviz’s sound is a pleasant mix of bare-bones house, the old school Detroit house variety. Throw in a smidgin of R&B, add Nina’s adroit and honey dripping vocals and you got an album to be reckoned with. I know you’re feeling this, so cop it at iTunes. Peace. Beyoncé // End of Time (Sky Monkey Remix)

You may have noticed that I post a not insubstantial amount of remixes here, and so it will come as no surprise that I offer yet another one. However, this one is muy especial because it is a submission to the Beyoncé End Of Time Remix Competition and this remix is by the very comparable DJ/Producer Sky Monkey. Here’s how it works, if you like this remix (I know you do) then head on over and cast your vote for Sky Monkey. Peace. Continue reading “Beyoncé // End of Time (Sky Monkey Remix)”

Cherub // Doses And Mimosas

Jordan Kelley and Jason Huber, bka as the too-sexy-not-to-be-cool duo Cherub, are back and laying down their erotic brand of Pop music like an experienced plumber laying pipe. Yeah, you know damn well it’s THAT kind of party! And rest assured their track “Doses And Mimosas” is only a primer for what awaits fans when their forthcoming LP MoM & DaD drops. But, if there debut Man Of The Hour was the fan-frenzy concert, then MoM & DaD is the party after  after party the after party. It’s when J.K. and J. H. have returned to their respective hotel suites with an exquisite femme fatale in tow, and what happens next is experienced in slow motion and through a swirling haze of that King Cannabis. But more on that later. With Doses and Mimosas you’re treated to more of what makes Cherub such a fun band to listen to, the music is horizontal-dance worthy, and it is a whole lot of party, and you better take pictures. Because a Cherub party, although a wickedly good time, is a motherfucka’ to recall the next day. Yes, the bad boys below the MasonDixon Line are back and they got the music that’s still so damn good your ears are gonna want to have its baby. Peace.

P.S. And don’t forget to vote for Cherub’s Doses And Mimosas on the Hype Machine Continue reading “Cherub // Doses And Mimosas”

illy symphony (Our Wednesday Spotlight Favorite!)

“Our Hump Day… Ergo Our Wednesday Spotlight Favorite!”

More often than not, whenever you talk to someone with any degree of success in any given field, and you ask the secret of their success, you will usually get an answer that goes something like this: I was born to do this, or I started with the basic principles, or I worked really hard and learned everything about (insert passion).

So, it comes as no surprise when the musical auteur known only as illy symphony gives us a similar formulaic response. But, here it sounds like the truth only because it is, or rather he is, the real McCoy. Like the well-worn adage goes, “The proof is in the pudding,” and in this case, I’ve not only sampled the pudding, but my ears have licked the damn bowl clean as well. Needless to say, the results are downright euphonious!

Recap, illy symphony started with the basics, he fell head over heels for percussionistic sounds, mainly the kick and the snare. Later, he become enamored with vinyl and the art of synthesizing and excavating the ghosts of beats into the twin atmospheres of rhythm and groove. In short, with an innate skill illy symphony has mastered his chosen craft and is now poised to make a debut. A debut not given to someone unworthy of review. No, this one has put in work. And yes, I hope you like pudding, the rich chocolatey intensely rhapsodic variety, because this won’t just stick to your ribs, it’ll coat your eardrums with joy. After the jump, check out what illy symphony had done with the works of Lana Del Rey, Little Dragon and Jack White, and if they’re pleased with his work, like me you’ll be utterly ecstatic. Peace.    Continue reading “illy symphony (Our Wednesday Spotlight Favorite!)”

Sabotoge // Beastie Boys (Clockwork 2012 Bootleg) Remix

Pulling away from the pack of up and coming DJ/Producers is City of Angels native Clockwork (aka Henry Steinway). And when one deigns to approach a classic like the Beastie Boys‘ “Sabotoge” you better go big or stay the hell home. Well, Clockwork chose the former and transforms a classic into an off-planet recreation equipped with enough high energy propulsion to propel listeners to the outer reaches of the universe between two ears. And because he’s cool peeps (and he recently turned the big 2-1) Clockwork is giving the remixed Sabotoge away, just visit his www.facebook.com/clockworkmusic. Enjoy and let your backbone slip. Erasure // Fill Us With Fire (Video)

Long before electro-pop had much of an audience, or was even considered cool, there was Andy Bell and Vince Clarke taking a step into the unknown with, if not bravado, then youthful naïveté, and an ocean worth of enthusiasm and talent galore. Since 1985 the duo have been busy creating hit after hit, selling more than 25 million albums worldwide. So, if you’re thinking these gentlemen are new to the scene, well think again. Long before there was: MGMT, Passion Pit, Cut Copy or Hot Chip, and a slew of other bands with similar sonic ties, there was Erasure (Factoid: Vince Clarke was a founding member of Depeche Mode). I applaud them for being true originals and visionaries, whose music has really become the soundtrack to so many lives across the globe. I also want to salute Andy Bell for his courage, for being one of the first openly gay music icons to come out, which was no mean feat in the 80’s. Erasure will release Fill Us With Fire as the third single from their Tomorrow’s World album on March 12th 2012. I’ve been a fan, I’m still a fan. Peace.
