Whispertown // Open The Other Eye

Being the sole anchor of the music project known as Whispertown is a demanding undertaking. But, Morgan Nagler is more than capable, and up for the task. Recently, the collective formerly known as The Whispertown 2000 has gone through a metamorphosis of sorts. And as a testament to Ms. Nagler’s munificent character, she sees clear and true, a musical landscape of few restrictions. Her vision, not only includes sounds, but those sounds are culled from many a musical nook and cranny. With Whispertown you’re just as likely to hear folk influences as you are the more brightly electro infused fare. Although, Morgan Nagler is indeed the centerpiece (songwriter, vocals, and guitarist) there exists a revolving door through which an assortment of cast members flow. This approach is more expansive, and allows for, not only greater experimentation, but instrumentation and modes of delivery as well. The results are nothing less than righteous. Listen to the first single “Open The Other Eye” from Whispertown’s forthcoming EP Parallel due out March 20th via Acony Records. You can get “Open The Other Eye” as a free download here at whispertown.com. Peace. Continue reading “Whispertown // Open The Other Eye”

Teen Daze // Brooklyn Sunburn

starring out into the see // I sea complete // & all the possibilities I peruse// inspire dreams of conjure  // anon the sleeping of awakened muse  // propel senses to delicately wander  // & so i tread where the sounds teach me less  // these answers to life’s test  // this questioning ponders.

At times you just have to let the music take you wherever it chooses to lead. However, Vancouver’s Teen Daze inspires the opposite, in that the music goes out on a limb and let’s him take the reigns. Heady stuff for sure. But, when the music trusts you so implicitly the results are sublime. Check out the astral first release “Brooklyn Sunburn” from the forthcoming debut full length All Of Us, Together out May 22nd via Lefse Records. Peace. Heartsrevolution // Are We Having Fun Yet

One of my favorite DYI bands Heartsrevolution have been creating dance inducing (Dance Till Dawn, Switchblade), and oft times politically charged (I.D. (Investigation Discovery) music for quite a while. Ben Pollock and Leyla ‘Lo’ Safai, and long time live performance drummer Terry ‘Prince Terrence’ Campbell, have teased their adoring fans with the promise of a full-length album for what seems like forever. And sorry, I don’t have news of a forthcoming release. However, I remain hopeful the highly anticipated debut Ride Or Die will materialize in 2012. Here’s to hope eternal. Peace. Capitol Cities // Breathe (Ft. Tupac Shakur)

Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian are L.A.-based electro-pop duo Capital Cities. And although these two have been at the music thing for a minute, not since Dangermouse and his groundbreaking Grey Album, have I been so blown away by such an imaginative sonic coupling. The duos cover/remix of  Pink Floyd’sBreathe” featuring Tupac Shakur is a mash-up supreme. Also, you’re going to want to check out their incredible 2011 EP release Safe and Sound and of course I got it for you after the jump. And I know you’re gonna want your very own copy of the “Breathe” single, you can get it here. And if you’re going to make the most of the music, well you gotta get up and dance. Peace. st. andrew // midnight girlfriend

I am kicking the vibe into a decidedly club direction until the wee hours of a new day. Question is, do you have the stamina to hang tough? I’ve delved into the deep dark recesses of my iPod and pulled up hellified tracks from the shadows. First up is St. Andrew and his wickedly sick track “Midnight Girlfriend.” This one is like hooking up jumper-cables to your central nervous system and sippin’ some Montrachet 1978 (my shout out do Dionysus & MzSOULcialite). So, hold on tight and let’s get this party started! Peace. Continue reading “st. andrew // midnight girlfriend”

The Twilite Tone – Little Dragon // Ritual Union (Remix)

I am really feeling the ear pleasing sounds of The Twilite Tone.  This CHICaGO bred groove theorist has gone and done it again. Rusko – Someone To Love (Video)

He may not part the crowds like Moses parted the Red Sea but he get’s ’em onto the dance floor and out of their seats. Not bad for a bloke from Leeds. And in anticipation of a March 27th release for his forthcoming LP Songs,  via Diplo’s label Mad Decent and Downtown. Dubstep agent provocateur and producer Christopher Mercer bka Rusko gives us something to groove to right where you stand. Check out the musical chaos theory of “Someone To Love.” This track is ready-made for a good time, even if you’re old enough to be an AARP member. Are you scratching your head? Don’t worry it’ll all make sense after you watch the video below. Peace. Continue reading “Rusko – Someone To Love (Video)”

Chris Malinchak – No Secrets (ft. Damon C. Scott)

Not that you would, but if you could somehow inhale certain sounds and the outcome would equal the effects of certain hydroponically grown substances, would you be game? No? How about if said sounds were akin to those created by Chris Malinchak? Before you answer click and have yourself some of “No Secrets” featuring Damon C. Scott. Nice huh? Now, if you’re ready for more, hustle on over to French Express for another round of the remaining 3 tracks from the immaculate Vilette EP. Peace.
