Black Light Dinner Party – Gold Chain

All it takes is one listen and you’re hooked. Unlike so many things in life Black Light Dinner Party doesn’t take long to fall in love with. Their music is lush and filled with just enough honey sweetened sound goodies to satisfy your ear tooth. Check out the video for the song “Gold Chain” which provides further evidence that a cherished thing can be lost, and even sometimes found. Also, you got to love seeing Ron Jeremy doing a cameo with his clothes on, eh? Peace.

Young Empires – Enter Through The Sun

If eternally bouyant electro musical fare is your bag (or one of them) then I think I got a fix for you. Matthew Vlahovich. Aaron Ellingson. Jacob Palahnuk. = Young Empires. Maybe not a holy trinity but a triangular array of dreamy space stuff just the same. Plug “Enter Through The Sun” into your headphones and ride this motha’ to shore. Check out more Young Empire music here. Peace.

Pinemarten – Don’t Let Me Be Denied

Some songs you listen to and soon thereafter they fade into the sunset. Then there are those songs (like the ones I post here) that really have a shot at ending up in your iPod. Although you’ve more than likely never heard of U.K. producer Pinemarten you can expect that slight oversight to change in 2012. With the forthcoming release of If You Thought There Was Any Doubt scheduled for a November 28th release you can rest assured that his song “Don’t Let Me Be Denied” is only the beginning. Give you ears a “sound treat” and let them chew on the audio below. Peace.

Ra Ra Rasputin – Ra Ra Rasputin

Got to love music that makes you want to jump around, right? Anna Rozzi, Brock Boss, Patrick Kigongo and Ken Quam somehow get it right when it comes to doing just that in the form of Ra Ra Rasputin. This quartet has built an album designed to make you smile and shimmy the day (and night) away. If you have an affinity for FM Belfast then you’ll love Ra Ra Rasputin just fine. Peace.

loyal divide // vision vision

Have you ever been assaulted by a song? I mean literally taken out back and given a thorough ass kickin’? Well, if not you’re listening to the wrong music. Chicago’s Loyal Divide carries brass knuckles and is not just a shit-talker, these guys can actually back up every boast they utter, sonically speaking that is. Not that they’re a bunch of self-aggrandizing thugs, not at all. Listen to their single “Vision Vision” and you’ll understand my enthusiasm. Right away the liquid nitrogen beats freeze the blood in your veins, and the vocals of Adam Johnson are equally frosty. And although all the accoutrements of the typical electro outfit are present and accounted for there is so much more to these guys. I won’t brow beat you over the head, just check out the video for “Vision Vision” taken from their debut LP Bodice Ripper via Kilo Records. The visuals are arresting, and like a deer caught in the headlights you won’t look away. Peace. Continue reading “loyal divide // vision vision”

lana del rey // video games (sub swara remix)

I didn’t see it coming. Who did? I heard Lana Del Rey and her song “Video Games” way back when the rest of the developed world heard it. I liked it well enough, but not like I like it now. Sub Swara have put their collective subversive mitts all over it and made it a funkier and dirtier affair. Now, “Video Games” 2.0 needs to go to confession and say a few Hail Marys and Our Fathers, but I hope not. Now, it has swagga galore. Dhruva Ganesan and Dave Sharma has clothed Ms. Del Rey in Beth Gibbons’ attire. Now she walks a bit like PJ Harvey to the heady drone of uncircumcised ragga beats and swooning synths and the world is better for it. Thanks guys. Peace. Deptford Goth – Youth II

It drips like fat rainbow/plaid raindrops. It pushes you like the errant wind tussling a small dreaming sailboat out to sea. You. Looking down from the tallest crag of Mount Kilimanjaro. All these images fitting together, juxtaposed into a spacey mosaic of sound. Not cluttered, but stitched patchwork upon the delicate petals of mystical flowers flowing into the curlicued nautilus of the listener’s ear. This is Major Tom to Ground Control. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Peace

P.S. Daniel Woolhouse is Deptford Goth. Youth II is the EP via Merok Records. Out now.

Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble – Pretend (ft. Emika)

Normally a 9-piece outfit the Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble is nowadays a trio touring North America. It is hard to classify these guys. At times electro, then turning into something resembling techno/pop meets Richard Wagner. Although that sounds like a weird combination, surprisingly it works.  No doubt their latest album Mr. Machine is an eclectic and tantalizing  hybrid, you got to hear it to believe that different can be indeed good, very good. Mr. Machine is out now on via K7.

Chairlift – Peculiar Paradise

Chairlift Iis: Caroline Polachek, Aaron Pfenning, Patrick Wimberly

Straight out of Brooklyn, NYC comes the futuristic/retro trio Chairlift. There is clear musical references to 80;s and 90’s era pop, and if I’m not mistaken there is some Janet Jackson sampling going on. Currently, I am really digging the cut “Peculiar Paradise”, (click the link below to hear it). I love how their recent music inhabits several different elements at once: embracing the psychedelic, hazy electro and provocative signatures of R&B simultaneously. I also included the video for an older track titled “Bruises”. Check it out. Peace
