Orlando Higginbottom transformed himself into Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and the dance music scene is no longer as they were. TEED has taken old school house music and breathed into it the chillness of Space Ghost with the stylistic panache of a graffiti artist. No this isn’t hauteur hipness anywhere with this guy, his music is for the masses. Check out his latest, the David Terranova directed video for his new single “Tapes & Money” and look for the new single release April 2, 2012. Peace. Karin Park // Fryngies (Moullinex Remix)
What happens when a girl from Dalarna, Sweden, grows up with the stunning voice of an angel? Well, she makes a living as a singer, duh! I’m talking about Karin Park, and she is indeed blessed (and badass). Karin’s latest LP draws references from a myriad of after dark and dance inspiring influences, i.e. Dubstep, Industrial, Electro, as well as the dirty deeds of Synthpop, all this wrapped around Ms. Park’s hauntingly beautiful voice. My favorite remix here is the Funtcase treatment, love it! After the jump check out additional mixes, as well as the original “Fryngies.” This one is a new favorite and is getting lots of play whilst using the night as cover for legal (mostly) and unmentionable deeds. I hope you like it too. Peace. Continue reading “Karin Park // Fryngies (Moullinex Remix)”
Nas Ft. Damian Marley (DallasK Remix)
The thing about this collaboration is if you know about Nas then you expect the mic to be spit upon graciously. Same goes for Damian Marley, you know he’s going to bring fire and a whole mess of organic soul music. However, there is an x-factor here with this particular remix and it goes by the name DallasK, but don’t you dare fret. This up & coming Orlando based Producer/DJ (Dallas Koehlke) is the real deal. But I’ma shut up and let DallasK shove & prove. Hold on tight. Peace. Continue reading “Nas Ft. Damian Marley (DallasK Remix)”
J Flash // Flashbang.002
Denver, Colorado denizen J Flash (Jack Botsford) continues to bring it! Fresh off the major success of his two previous releases SWAG and That’ll Work we see this young up and coming DJ/Producer igniting speaker boxes like neutron bombs once again. So get up and do a few stretches and some deep breathing exercises, then click play and dance until you fracture something. By the way, you can get this 30-minute mixtape as a totally righteous FREE DOWNLOAD! Peace. Continue reading “J Flash // Flashbang.002”
princess chelsea // the cigarette duet (video)
When checking out the cutesy song The Cigarette Duet by Princes Chelsea that’s gone viral on Youtube, some words of caution. Don’t make the mistake of expecting the rest of the songs featured on her debut album ‘Lil Golden Book as being equally didactic. Although it may appear Ms. Chelsea Nikkel has a thing against societies double-trouble legal vices; cigarettes and booze (listen to Too Fast To Live as well) it’s all good though. But don’t worry Princess C. isn’t all about composing quirky moralistic pop odes. No, she likes to have fun just like everybody else. I swear. If you’re looking for something that is witty and filled with, in some cases, maudlin dream-mare, then Princess Chelsea is the one for you. And if you like visions of Alice In Wonderland gone all Gothic, and I do, then you like her just fine. I love her song, “Yulia” which is delivered with clipped no-nonsense enunciation, and the video for the song only lends further to her off kilter style and adroit observations. For more, visit her SoundCloud for gems like “Caution Repetitive” and “Goodnight Little Robot Child” as well as several other songs from Princess Chelsea, our pop royalty debutante from Auckland, New Zealand. Peace. Continue reading “princess chelsea // the cigarette duet (video)”
lucky date // six 16 (original mix)
Jordan Atkins-Loria is Lucky Date and by the sound of his latest track “Six 16” we are indeed very lucky to have him. This Chicago-based DJ/Producer is taking us to the moon, and hopefully we’ll return only after we’ve danced ourselves sparkling clean. Like me you’ll want this one for yourself, and you can get it lickety-split, via Bazooka Records at BeatPort. Happy dancing. Peace. Continue reading “lucky date // six 16 (original mix)”
Heartsrevolution // Are We Having Fun Yet
One of my favorite DYI bands Heartsrevolution have been creating dance inducing (Dance Till Dawn, Switchblade), and oft times politically charged (I.D. (Investigation Discovery) music for quite a while. Ben Pollock and Leyla ‘Lo’ Safai, and long time live performance drummer Terry ‘Prince Terrence’ Campbell, have teased their adoring fans with the promise of a full-length album for what seems like forever. And sorry, I don’t have news of a forthcoming release. However, I remain hopeful the highly anticipated debut Ride Or Die will materialize in 2012. Here’s to hope eternal. Peace. Cherub – Love You Right (Cry Wolf Remix)
If Mary M. Shelly is credited with creating Frankenstein, then by all means the mad scientists of deathly sick remixes Cry Wolf (Justin Phillips/Johnluke Lewis) creates yet another Continue reading “Cherub – Love You Right (Cry Wolf Remix)”
Chris Malinchak – No Secrets (ft. Damon C. Scott)
Not that you would, but if you could somehow inhale certain sounds and the outcome would equal the effects of certain hydroponically grown substances, would you be game? No? How about if said sounds were akin to those created by Chris Malinchak? Before you answer click and have yourself some of “No Secrets” featuring Damon C. Scott. Nice huh? Now, if you’re ready for more, hustle on over to French Express for another round of the remaining 3 tracks from the immaculate Vilette EP. Peace.
Childish Gambino – Heartbeat (aRod Remix)
Sir Donald is riding high these days, and I suspect in more ways than one. With the release of his stunna’ LP Camp (which dropped Nov. 15th) there comes a smidgen of validation. Yes, self-proclaimed squares are not only cool; but this one can rap his ass off too. And not that it means anything, but Camp is currently resting at #2 on iTunes these days. What’s all the fuss about Childish Gambino you may ask? I’ll just let you rock out to “Heartbeat” superbly remixed by aRod. “I’m going straight for your thighs like the cake you ate!” Stop it D. you’re killing ’em. Peace.
