shiny toy guns // fading listening

on the track “fading listening” the voices of chad petree and carah faye charnow of the now undefunct pioneering electro-pop band shiny toy guns, do a sort of call and response reminiscent of the vocally handsome twining with the sonically beautiful. but don’t mind me just listen to the song and just be thankful this pioneering band of four (the other two band members being Jeremy Dawson and Mikey Martin) are finally back together and making great music. the band’s new album III is out now, and if you want to stream it then go to www. shinytoyguns.com. peace.

poliça // the maker (gardens and villa remix)

You’ve likely noticed (if you have a history here) that I’ve reviewed several songs by Poliça and here is yet another reason for me to continue my on-going admiration for this great Minnesota band.

Dropping August 14th, Mom + Pop Music will reissue Poliça‘s recently released debut album Give You The Ghost. SPIN.com described the Ryan Olson and Jim Eno produced band’s sound as “tough, R&B-bent, live wire electronica that doubles as Auto-Tune delight.”

In Addition, Poliça (Channy Leaneagh, Chris Bierden, Drew Christopherson and Ben Ivascu) will also release The Dark Star EP with reinterpretations of tracks by the likes of Exitmusic, Aluxe and others. Good stuff. Here, “The Maker,” the impressive production duo Gardens & Villa have worked their collective magic for the Dark Star Remix EP. I can’t wait to here the rest of the EP. Peace. chrome sparks // marijuana

I am always amazed by the skill of this up and coming creative force Jeremy Malvin better known in certain circles as Chrome Sparks. He’s a young loin from Ann Arbor, Michigan with talent galore. I’ve written about him before, and now with his latest, “Marijuana” prepare to be totally blissed-out with the unofficial video directed by the vigilante cinematographer David Burkhart. The song “Marijuana” is taken from the latest BRL MTN compilation AAURAL II. Peace. Continue reading “chrome sparks // marijuana”

múm // early birds

It isn’t fair nor it is an easy task to try to put the band Múm into any one category, so I won’t. Especially, when they are so much more than just another Icelandic pop band. In terms of their position in the wide and ever evolving constellation of music these folk hold a singular place in my heart. Not many bands are so expansive, in that Múm will touch your heart and your head simultaneously. On June 1st the band released a compilation of material ranging from 1998-2000 (roughly), and it is beyond wonderful. I have two treats for you after the jump. One is a new video for “Hvernig Á Að Særa Vini Sína” (How to Hurt Your Friends) directed by Máni M. Sigfússon. Secondly, I have a new (downloadable) single entitled 0,000Orð. The latter track is all kinds of dreamy accoutrement, the kind which makes perfect accompaniment to a (sought after) tranquil existence. Peace. Continue reading “múm // early birds”

diplo // barely standing (ft. datsik & sabi)

One thing for certain Philadelphia’s native son Diplo serves up some of the nastiest beats in musicdom. Straight up no frontin’. Case in point, the track, “Barely Standing,” featuring Datsik and Sabi is like a siren call to the dance floor. Get loose with this one and let the music move you! You got cop this one and five more freshily funkily Diplo tracks on the bodacious Express Yourself EP available on iTunes. Peace. Continue reading “diplo // barely standing (ft. datsik & sabi)”

poliça // wandering star (official video)

The ring is on my hand,
And the wreath is on my brow;
Satin and jewels grand
Are all at my command,
And I am happy now.

~ Edgar Allan Poe

I thought an excerpt from the prince of melancholy would be utterly and resoundingly appropriate for this the official release of the latest video, “Wandering Star” by Poliça.  This ELY directed visualscape is so damn beautiful and I may and will lose hours getting lost watching it’s saddening and exquisite beauty . Peace. Continue reading “poliça // wandering star (official video)”
