karin park // restless (video premiere)

The music made by Karin Park is often complex in an neon-colored and electrified Rubik’s cube sort of way. However, the Olle Lundin-directed video for the song, “Restless,” is very, let’s say DYI. The song is taken from the forthcoming debut album Highwire Poetry due for release later this month. For a proper interview of the making of the Restless video, as well as, other goings on go to our friends at www.wonderlandmagazine.com. Peace. Poliça // Lay Your Cards Out (Video) + New Tour Dates

The band Poliça just added additional tour dates for 2012 and I’m ever so thankful.  I missed their show in Chicago and now I’ll be able see them here in Michigan! Poliça has got to be one of the sexiest bands in existence today. Yeah it’s the music, but without a doubt Channy Casselle-Leaneagh is a major ingredient to their appeal with her (she’ll hate for this ) pixieish good looks and seductive singing voice and style. A big thumbs up to one of most darling records in my collection. Peace. Continue reading “Poliça // Lay Your Cards Out (Video) + New Tour Dates”

Dntel // Still

James Scott “Jimmy” Tamborello bka Dntel is a lot things, but it’s his skill at composing wickedly chill electronica that has garnered him the most attention.  The track “Chill” is a perfect example of his ongoing and ever-expanding oeuvre. Most recently, his latest LP titled Aimlessness is total dream production. This release is 12-tracks of gorgeously sculpted music; it’s the stuff burning candles and iridescent moonlight listen to when they want to vibe out. You can also check out his superb internet show Dying Songs exclusively at dublab, which is the perfect accompaniment to chill evenings spent maxin’ and relaxin’. Peace. Nikki & The Dove // Tomorrow

Malin Dahlström and Gustaf Karlöf collectively pit themselves against our eardrums as the band Nikki & The Dove. And thus far they’re winning us over to the bright side with kaleidoscopic musical fare one song at a time. And their  latest track “Tomorrow” is another example of why I am eagerly awaiting their forthcoming Instinct LP, which is expected to drop May 14th. To get your copy make sure to pre-order it on iTunes. And if that wasn’t enough you can watch the official video for the “Tomorrow” on YouTube. And after the jump I got the videos for the song “The Fox” which is my favorite song by N&TD right after their highly addictive “The Drummer” by the way. And I also have the video “DJ, Ease My Mind”. This ought to keep your busy for a hot minute. Peace. Continue reading “Nikki & The Dove // Tomorrow”

chet faker | i’m into you | video

Chet Faker isn’t an artist shrouded in mystery. A bit of mystique? Yes. This talented singer/songwriter/producer wears his intent, and perhaps his heart too, on his musical sleeve. No secret either how the music he creates is just plain lovely. I also find Chet Faker to be fearless, or maybe it’s just high-octane confidence, either way it’s all good. Here is an artist who can tackle Radiohead’s song Nude and reduce it to its spiritual essence, no mean feat. And CF is equally comfortable (and very capable) of reaching into the R&B archives of 1996 and polishing off Blackstreet’s No Diggity by Blackstreet into a new-found glowing radiance. After the jump, check out Chet Faker’s secret live session performing his very own, I’m Into You at S.O.TERIK‘s Showcase at SXSW presented by FILTER Magazine. Peace. Air Tycoon / / Land Locked

There resides within the music of Air Tycoon poetry aplenty. Epic tomes stitched through with canticles and the laughter of mermaids frolicking amongst whitecaps and the cry of seagulls. There are arias too, beleaguered and redolent with beauteous moods, and deep within these sounds swirls nautiluses and the gossamer breath of long-winded eternity. Joe Garcia bka Air Tycoon is a young architect of audibles trills, an apprentice of the highest order, and he erects sonic edifices with little effort, yet with much meaning in the heart of the listener. I can only bow my head and offer a soul-felt thanks you. Peace. Continue reading “Air Tycoon / / Land Locked”

Scratch Massive // Closer Ft. Chloé

The song “Closer” Ft. Chloé” is a dangerously dark funk swamp in which one could sink within for hours on end. It dirties your fingertips it does, and muddles your neck with sucking kisses vampire like. It paws and scratches your delicate skin. It leaves bruises on body party and they aren’t ashamed to display these little remembrances like trophies. This is what a Scratch Massive song can do, and just when you think you’ve had enough you click repeat and Maud Geffray and Sébastien Chenuthave seduce you all over again. Peace. chrome sparks | still sleeping | ft. steffaloo

According to Jeremy Malvin, bka as Chrome Sparks, life at the moment has its positives which include the following: His age, he’s barely into his 20’s. He’s a student, presently matriculating at the University of Michigan (Go Blue!). And lastly, his above average height, which I’m guessing is just over 6 foot (182.9 cm for those into metrics). Call it an unflagging modesty, but he failed to mention his ability to make astounding futurian-worthy music, seemingly out of thin air. For someone so young he is making quite a name for himself, both inside and outside of his Michigan, by way of Fort Duquesne environs (hidden history lesson). When he’s not deeply submerged in sub-space rearranging molecules into dreamy soundscapes, he’s moving crowds as DJ Professor Purple at local haunts like Necto. Also, he’s fresh from a Chicago date having shared the bill with Theophilus London. He’ll soon be sharing the limelight with Diplo protégé Rusko at Ann Arbors’ Necto. And for those lucky locals they’ll catch him with Nightlife and Alexis at Woodruff’s in Ypsilanti this Wednesday night! And be on the look see for Chrome Sparks forthcoming EP Surface Glows, no date as of yet, but rest assured I’ll keep you posted. Peace. Close // Perfect Darkness

Nothing like a little mystery and ambiguity to further interest. At this juncture, attempting to  remain in the shadows using only the tag Close. This eclectic electronica-producer is about to release, like a once cloistered pure white dove, his deeply personal and beautifully bruised debut LP entitled, Getting Closer. Already some über-attentive media outlets are muttering comparisons and influences, ranging from Detroit techno, House music, and Brian Enoesque references. But, all those comparisons are both true and untrue, because Close is able to go outside his influences and delve into deeper space and meaning. Are you picking up what I’m putting down?

Via his website, Close will be offering glimpses of his music, which will be updated every 24-hours. Also, check out current remixes of such notables as Fink, Little Dragon and Scuba on SoundCloud. This artist will be one to watch in 2012 for damn sure. Peace. Continue reading “Close // Perfect Darkness”
