Kanye West // Lost In The World (Official Video)

The perfect director can make one hell of a difference, taking your song and visually transcending every expectation. Ruth Hogben has done that and more with Rap icon extraordinaire/visionary Mr. Kanye West’s track “Lost In The World”. This is a wonderfully shot video not atypical of what we expect from the world of hip hop and it’s totally refreshing as it is fresh to death. Peace. Wildcat! Wildcat! // End Of The World Everyday

Los Angeles trio Wildcat! Wildcat! are a sure bet to get you in a particular mood. A mood that leaches every worry away, or at least dull those concerns to a low hum. No doubt Jesse Taylor, Michael Wilson and Jesse Carmichael are being compared to MGMT but that’s ok. Because good music is good music. Point blank. But make no mistake these guys are not copy cats by any stretch of the imagination. And with songs like “Mr. Quiche” and “End Of The World Everyday” you’ll find yourself simply falling for Wc!Wc! for who they are and not for who you think their music sounds like. Peace. Ahwlee | The Art of Rəuse | Valleys

Ahwlee | The Art of Rəuse | Valleys

Some makers of beats dwell in subterranean chambers and are funded by nefarious think tanks whose mission is unraveling groove theory. And then there is the likes of Ahwlee. His approach is simple approach and a tranquil existence as he toils away in Long Beach, California. And like a master beats craftsman joining sound to sound, intertwining the warm beautiful with the seamlessly hypnotic. Basically, chopping it up quite spectacularly. Ahwlee + The Art of Rəuse + Valleys = Blissed-out soul sounds. This is a heavy dose of soulful vocal chops with mellow pulses resulting in a modernized mashup of easy listening. Peace. Athalia / / Blackrainbows (Our Sunday Best)

Hailing from Melbourne, Australia the last place (well, maybe not the last place) you’d expect to find such patently provocative soul and potently sexy music, such as Athalia creates. The track “Black Rainbows” is an aptly-titled dark beautiful affair, while “Better Things” is an outright fire starter, or candle burner. I imagine both songs will undoubtedly find their way on many music-to-make-love-to compilations. Whether you’re suspicious or merely curious, just listen, though wait until the smoke clears to thank me. And with production by such notables as Ta-ku, 3LLL, Insightful, Jazzo & Melodiesinfonie, I’m looking forward to what the future holds for this talented artist. By the way, the EP drops May 14th. Peace. Continue reading “Athalia / / Blackrainbows (Our Sunday Best)”

Spoek Mathambo / / Put Some Red On It (Shabazz Palaces Remix)

According to his label Sub Pop Spoek Mathambo, “Spoek Mathambo makes the Afro-futurists look old school. With the arrival of his second album, Father Creeper, he’s one man building up an army to make his creative visions a reality, rewriting any artistic laws in his way.”

Well, I’m totally smitten and I’m loving the music, the flow, the vibe, his swag. Basically, I’m a fan, a new convert if you will. Plus, I’m earning massive cool points for puttin’ on music out of Johannesburg, South Africa. And oh, you got to check his take on the Joy Division‘s “She’s Lost Control” and if that doesn’t get you, well my friend we need to talk. Peace. The Hood Internet // Touch One (Khaled + Drake + Rick Ross + Lil’ Wayne + Holy Other + Supreme Cuts)

If you’re down, then you’re down. Aaron Brink (aka ABX) and Steve Reidell (aka STV SLV) known as The Hood Internet are down. And what exactly does being down entail. Well, for starters it means not having limitations regarding what a song or track can be. Then also, being down translates into being fearless, in that you follow your heart, and the groove wherever it takes you. On both counts the Chicago-based duo more than fit the bill. And if you’re not familiar check ’em out, but it’s going to take some doing because The Hood Internet’s back catalog is massive, like juggernaut style massive. For instance, if one could take all the mind alternating grooves they’ve collectively produced over the years and put then end to end they would ring Nirvana infinitely. Check out what these two gifted sound surgeons have done with the track “Touch One,” they’ve taken some of hip-hops finest and set them adrift upon a compendium of  sensuous sound waves. They’ve enwrapped them one and all is a soft gossamer shroud, and more importantly, nary a street cred was harmed in the making of this remix. You want more? Well, you can cop this track and plenty more at www.thehoodinternet.com Peace. Continue reading “The Hood Internet // Touch One (Khaled + Drake + Rick Ross + Lil’ Wayne + Holy Other + Supreme Cuts)”
