until the ribbon breaks // 2025

Imagine if Philip K. Dick or Ray Bradbury delved into music or even better their twined DNA accidentally got exposed to Gamma rays and mutated. If said accident ever took place perhaps the end result wouldn’t be much of a negative after all and instead we’d get the gorgeous catastrophe called Until The Ribbon Breaks. I am but a mortal man but even I an appreciate the extraterrestrial and enigmatic beauty of the their music. In watching the video for 2025 one gets a peek of the apocalyptic  reality of a possible future earth, and the lyrics, which are sheer horrific beauty:

I was born with my back to the stars
Turn me over, I’d like to see
Here comes the morning to end our dream
Turn me over, I’d like to see
I was born with my back to the stars
Please see that they tell my truth
Please see that they tell my truth

So who’s your favorite superhero?
Or did we lose the fear?
Or maybe we just don’t need saving
But while we’re here
Could you tell me when the lights come on?
This does not feel like home
If it’s something that I paid for
It should be something that I own

So don’t we look pretty with nowhere to go?
It’s cool to be lonely, didn’t you know?
I think I’ll marry a stranger that I met online
It’s not that it’s not love, it’s just a sign of the times
Of the time

If only we could learn some patience
I’ll take a course
Or maybe we should split the money
Go straight for divorce
Could you tell me when we fall in love?
Or just write it down
Let me know if you find my feelings
Just if you see them around

So don’t we look pretty with nowhere to go?
It’s cool to be lonely, didn’t you know?
I think I’ll marry a stranger that I met online
It’s not that it’s not love, it’s just a sign of the times
Of the time

Oh, I need a feeling, I need a fix
To take me on driving, we could sleep in the stakes
It’s too much, too easy, long for the chase
I long for the gaps and the words, I long for the space

So don’t we look pretty with nowhere to go?
It’s cool to be lonely, didn’t you know?
I think I’ll marry a stranger that I met online
It’s not that it’s not love, it’s just a sign of the times
Of the time.

If I were a record needle this is the perfect vinyl grave I would love to be buried in. Check out the accompanying video after the jump. Also, if you like the band’s first single Pressure then you’ll love Village Remix. Peace.  Continue reading “until the ribbon breaks // 2025 + video”

sonny & the sunsets // antenna to the afterworld (our sunday best)

Sonny & The Sunsets return to not only thrill fans with just another album. This time out the subject matter will put listeners in touch with their last breath, and just maybe upon listening to this LP one’s life will unfurl before your eyes. Hopefully as an harbinger to entertainment and not the conclusion of ones’ lifeline..  Lead singer/songwriter Sonny Smith experienced the death of a close friend (our condolences) and this life event had a profound effect on his relationship and understanding of what it means to pass on the other side so to speak. The songs on the new LP Antenna To The Afterworld are quirky, introspective and yet still maintain a high degree of listenability. The songs take on various influences, at times sounding like new wave rockabilly and other times, they sound like something else entirely. The album hits the streets June  11th, 2013. Peace. mount kimbie // made to stray + video

I don’t know but Mount Kimbie (Dominic Maker and Kai Campos) could very well reach god-like (ok, maybe just legendary) status with the release of their latest Cold Spring Fault Less Youth LP courtesy of Warp Records. I caught up with the video for the track Made To Stray, but it’s up to you to catch the rest of the album. But, that’s an easy fix, head on over to iTunes. Oh just so you know the You Took Your Time ft. King Krule is killin’ it! Peace. Continue reading “mount kimbie // made to stray + video”

the limousines // love is a dog from hell

Apparently, according to San Francisco-based band The Limousines (Eric Victorino and Giovanni Giusti) we have been warned, “Love Is A Dog From Hell”And perhaps yes, this is both a sometime apt proclamation,  which just so happens to be serving double-duty as a song title. The track is taken from the TL’s soon to be released LP Hush available for pre-order on Big Cartel. Peace. Continue reading “the limousines // love is a dog from hell”

kyan // perfect crime

Kyan is the perfect embodiment of the indie spirit and through his hard work and creativity people are taking notice! The reason? Well, in part it is his videos, but also because his songs are inventive and not surprisingly well written R&B/Pop gems. Recently he unveiled a new video for the song song Perfect Crime, which is just a whole lot of fun. Period. The home-made video was made possible due his many Youtube-fans and followers, and I suspect his fanshiip will only head north, ya dig?. We’re expecting big things from Kyan and you should too. Peace. Continue reading “kyan // perfect crime”
