la luz | believe my eyes

La Luz always makes me want to pack up my shit and leave all other music behind. Makes me want to take an early retirement and get to chillin’ on a remote South American beach and drink San Miguel. And my adoration mostly has to do with the chill vibe (and mostly Shana Cleveland’s pale moon vocals) they collectively cast off. Recently the “ladies four” premiered a skulking-around-the-dark-edges track titled Believe My Eyes. And even though the track didn’t make it onto the band’s forthcoming Weirdo Shrines LP, its been dreaming of the light of day, and guess what? Well, it means that it’s rise and shine time for this hauntingly beautiful little number. Makes me happy. Continue reading “la luz | believe my eyes”

young rival | interior light

Young Rival adds a distinct rock edge to your summer playlist with their southern rock punk track Interior Light. This offering sounds like a mashup of The War On Drugs, The Strokes and Of Montreal. Not bad musical references if you ask me. The Interior Light single is out now courtesy of Paper Bag Records. Look for the album bearing the same name to drop October 16th. You can check out the track and track-list after the jump. Peace. Continue reading “young rival | interior light”

the drums | there is nothing left | official video

The Drums throws new optics in the air with the video for There Is Nothing Left. The official video was directed by the handily adept and wondrously talented team of David Gantz + Theo Cohn. The video co-stars trans-queer cultural goddess Hari Neff. But a hairy creeper, wine guzzling, vampireesque, Flashdance channeling Sasquatch kinda steals the show. Such an odd and sweetly violent metaphorical turn for sure. My eyes were left scratching their collective head.  The track There Is Nothing Left hails from The Drums’ Encyclopedia (2014) release, out now courtesy of Minor Records. That’s all I got. Peace. jmr | shivers

Damn JMR (Joshua Michael Robinson)! The track Shiver is a mercurial wind; at once hot, then cold. This is diamond beads of salty sweat threaded through with sweet silken seconds…

And WHOA! Beware the second hand, for seconds mount and coalesce into the heavier minutes and sturdy hours of lovemaking. or mayhap a fistful-of-hair-quickie. This track is the gasoline tossed upon two bodies bursting into shivering flame. Run this shit. Flashback Fridays just got very … um… heated. Peace. Continue reading “jmr | shivers”

It’s not too often one gets to jam to a sweet track and extend a helping hand all in one fail swoop. Now you can. Listen to this SoySauce & Saturn track Gravity Waves (Feat. Charlie Kim) and read on. You can check out the full Lunch Money EP for more incredible music after the jump (meaning down below bro). All proceeds from the iTunes sales of the record are going to the LA Food Bank and their BackPack program, helping kids receiving free or subsidized lunches during the school week from going hungry over the weekend. james vincent mcmorrow | how to waste a moment

James Vincent McMorrow drops new material out of nowhere with the scintillating track How To Waste A Moment. Mr. Mc continues his thread of alt R&B and it suits me just fine. Hopefully this signals there is a new release coming soon. Hell, I am still reeling from Post Tropical. But more is always better, especially if its coming from this talented Irishman. Oh and if you can, then most certainly do yourself a favor and catch JVM live. James is out on tour now, check for tour dates after the jump. Peace. Autobahn enters the room trailing a rock morbidity (read sensibility) reminiscent of Joy Division with the averted and downcast eyes of Bauhaus before Peter Murphy got happy. The track Society is taken from the debut album, Dissemble, via Tough Love Records and is scheduled to drop the latter part of August (21st). Peace. Continue reading “autobahn | society”

damon albarn | everyday robots

Damon Albarn, hey man its been a year and some change, and I am still inextricably in love with you, what gives? The Everyday Robots album is yet another maudlin gold standard for dark, moody and introspective brooding. From the title track Everyday Robots right on down to the very last song Heavy Seas of Love, this is a mellow ride that’s worth oft repeating. By the by, you’ll repeat Lonely Press Play more than a lil’ bit. Peace. Continue reading “damon albarn | everyday robots”
