anushka | mansions

Brighton duo Anushka (Victoria Port and Max Wheeler) take music making to new and highly enjoyable directions. Their brand of music is a blend of soulful R&B/electro (think Erykah Badu with futuristic electeroid tendacies) music. To date I haven’t heard a wrong move by the duo. They are on my radar and I expect major success is just around the corner. Anushka’s debut album Broken Circuit is out now courtesy of Brownswood Recordings. Peace. fractures | fractures ep | won’t win | official video

Fractures (Mark Zito) delivers a sure hit with his latest Won’t Win.. The lead single, from the upcoming Fractures EP release, ebbs with tension which feels like a slight constriction about one’s heart. Surely, there is trouble in the kingdom of love. And as I watched the vid I noticed a lot of the frames are back-lit wit red (passion), green (jealousy) and blue (peace and tranquility). The subtext can be easily read as the color spectrum representation of human relationships. No? And get this, the Fractures EP drops July 4th, the day in the U.S where the literal fireworks fly. Is this all some sort of mad coincidence? No matter. Continue reading “fractures | fractures ep | won’t win | official video”

Clairy Browne & The Bangin’ Rackettes | Baby Caught The Bus

Clairy Browne & The Bangin’ Rackettes bring a modern feel to Motown classics that could stop the likes of Diana and Aretha right in their respective tracks. All the way from Melbourne, Australia comes Clairy Browne, she’s a vocal powerhouse wading chin deep into your ears with something to prove.. Home girl has got it together and delivers her classic and soulful renditions with equal amounts of teasing, playfulness and genuine passion. The Bangin’ Rackettes (Ruby Jones, Camilla McKewen, Loretta Mille) are tambourine tapping, synchronized clapping, a back-up singing, dancing showgirl trio giving this nine-piece number a sexy Shirelles feel.

This band has it all then some, complete with saxophone playing, big band bee-bop and soulful Motown vibes aplenty. Ms. Browne sings with such a smoky, sultry passion you get all wrapped up in her sound and she keeps on reeling you in for more. Their debut album Baby Caught The Bus (Vanguard Records) has the power to captivate and bring the old school sexy out in everyone. In the words of Clairy herself: “Sing, Dance, Get the fuck into it.”

ang low | life goes down ep

Psst! The world is filled with vast soundscapes blossoming bouquets of possibility, infinitely. Why do I love penning this music blog? Well, everyday I am surprised and therefore thankful for the many artist adding their creative input and making me a believer over and over again. So, just so you know the Top 40 ain’t the only gig in town folks.

Check out Brooklynite Ang Low and his latest, the Life Goes Down EP. The EP includes 4-tracks, Can’t Describe Her, which unfolds like dark and sultry rose petals, dew heavy with the trappings of a heavy R&B influence. The EP title-track Life Goes Down sashays sweetly within the bell of your ear, this is the gospel of love at it’s finest, a declaration proclaiming devotion and a requited loveship forevermore. Then there is the tender as butterfly wings, Win Back Your Love, and the battle is on, to win back love…

The final reveal, Voodoo Woman is a frenetic shadow chant like a fiery shot over the bow of would be lovers the world over. Yet, to no avail for what is love without chaos and vice versa. At any rate you’ve be warned. All in all Ang Low fuses hormone infused lushness with atmospheric electronics with tinges of R&B and Soul and it is all tied up neatly with amazing vocals.

Ang Low’s debut the Life Goes Down EP drops courtesy of Luv Luv Luv Records on March 31st, 2014. Peace. Continue reading “ang low | life goes down ep”
