daniel wilson | the boy who cried thunder ep

Screen Shot 2014-11-28 at 11.16.22 AM

Ypsilanti, Michigan native Daniel Wilson isn’t so much an anomaly as he is a supremely talented singer/songwriter. He somehow manages to quasi-impersonate vocally greats like Smoky Robinson. Or in the case of the lead track Killed Ya the quirky best of a modern miracle like Cee Lo Green (Goodie Mob, Gnarls Barkley). Then musically inhabit the glissando of Brian Burton (Danger Mouse, Gnarls Barkley and Broken Bells).

Mr. D. W. can effortlessly (or so it seems) compose sonics on par with say Bon Iver (Vernon Jordan) or melt a melody ala Caroline Smith. But a copycat Mr. Wilson most certainly isn’t, for he brings the fresh and unique force of his own imaginative spirit to the music making experience. For proof check out his latest The Boy Who Cried Thunder EP and be impressed. I am an instant fan. Oh my fav is the song Proofread. I am pricked. Peace. caroline smith | half about being a woman lp

Caroline Smith
will take your heart and break it, mend it and send you on your merry way smiling like a fool. Ms. Smith does something with words and music which comes naturally and seemingly effortless, yet we know it isn’t either. But, it is her slight of voice and deft cleft notes that not only entertain our ears, but makes us lean in closer.

Her album Half About Being A Woman is a gut check for anyone, Doubting Thomases and otherwise, whomever rolled eyes or twisted collective lips at Ms. Smith’s change up from Folksy torch bearer to a decidedly R&B earthen funk delivery system. Fyfe Media Photo

The music of Fyfe makes mine chambered heart-cup runneth over with the burnished high emotions of amore. The track, Holding On is the perfect Hump Day song, if my drift is received and channeled with the correct overheated frequency. I blush.

The track Holding On is being released worldwide tomorrow, and I will provide updates on how you can get your mitts all over it. Peace. Continue reading “fyfe | holding on |”

elijah blake | strange fruit | video premiere

“We’ve been talking too long. So baby what is you on? You say you’ve got a man at home.
But you can’t fight what you don’t know. If you ’bout it, I’ll be over there tonight
You can ride it, and I’ma make love to your mind. While I fuck you tonight…”

Elijah Blake is so kinda’ hot right now! And there are several good reasons to utter such ballsy proclamations. Give Me U, Mornin’ After and Strange Fruit are all above par examples of why Mr. Blake’s debut Drift EP release, courtesy of (C) 2014 Def Jam Recordings, is currently one of the hottest downloads right now. And really, there is no reason why you can’t have the good stuff too. Psst! Watch the video premiere of “Strange Fruit,” then check out the track Give Me U after the jump. Peace. Continue reading “elijah blake | strange fruit | video premiere”

denitia and sene | divided | official video

.

Smooth like smoke from the tip of a Cuban cigar, and as sensuous as morning love, electro-soul duo Denitia & Sene not only exude sexy through their music, they invent it. The Brooklyn-based musicians came together a year ago with a shared vision to bring truth and ingenuity to stylistic music, and they’ve held their ambitions high ever since. Simple. Rare. Sumptuous. Bold.

They’ve been influenced by a range of sonic proclivities. Thus, their work is distinguished not by genre, but attention to free verse, and the magic that transpires between darkness and light. It’s film noir for audiophiles – chic, hip and alluring – and together, they have broken down personal limits to forge a bond surpassing all expectations.

With their latest single, “Divided,” listeners are treated once again to a sensuous sound morsel which only serves to whet our collective appetites for so much more. And we also get plenty more, for there are optics too. The official Divided video puts clothes upon the lyrics and music. But, it not only reveals more artistically it imprints fantasy and ecstasy inside where the our hearts beat.

In case you missed the duos previous 5-track Blah Blah Blah EP click HERE. Also, while I have your full and undivided attention go check out the nude (mssl cmmnd remix).

You can get the single Divided on iTunes. I got mine, for dear reader I couldn’t resist. Peace.

raury | ❤ ☮ indigo child project streaming tonight @ midnight ❤ ☮

Georgia native son Raury has been a veritable buzz fest for a while now. And if you’re already wonderfully tainted by this southern anti-gentleman’s mad music making skill set then you already know. Take his habit forming Cigarette Song or the track Bloom or the radiant sheen that is Sunshine.

While you’re at it take a snort from the inspiring and euphoria inducing ode God’s Whisper. After listening you’ll arrive at the same conclusion. Raury is kind of a big deal. However, his true gift isn’t sharing his energy but in inspiring others to be the change they want to see in the world. Sounds like a pretty good game plan to me. Peace. ibeyi | river

Ibeyi (French-Cuban twin sisters Kaindé and Naomi Diaz) are the musical offshoots of legendary percussionist Anga Diaz, blaze their own musical trail with the track River. The song is taken from their debut EP Oya release, out now courtesy of XL Recordings. The Ed Morris-directed video finds Kaindé and Naomi submerged within an aquatic medium. surfacing to exhale beautiful lyrics and douse blessings upon us all with evocative incantations, first in English, then finally in Yoruba.

The Oya EP is available on iTunes

But there is more than meets the untrained eye and ear here, and for youthful 19 year olds there is wisdom aplenty. There exists a correlation between their stage name Ibeyi (meaning children of miraculous birth) and the titles and significance of the tracks River and Oya. I’ll let you suss it out on your own. But know this, these songs are more than pretty sounds and eclectic renderings. No simple sound trinkets here. No, there is an observance of tradition, and a love and respect for ancestors at work here. Mad respect, Asé.

Spiritual. Original. Beautiful. Peace. Continue reading “ibeyi | river | official video”
