caroline smith | half about being a woman lp

Caroline Smith
will take your heart and break it, mend it and send you on your merry way smiling like a fool. Ms. Smith does something with words and music which comes naturally and seemingly effortless, yet we know it isn’t either. But, it is her slight of voice and deft cleft notes that not only entertain our ears, but makes us lean in closer.

Her album Half About Being A Woman is a gut check for anyone, Doubting Thomases and otherwise, whomever rolled eyes or twisted collective lips at Ms. Smith’s change up from Folksy torch bearer to a decidedly R&B earthen funk delivery system.

No matter, because this Minneapolis singer/songwriter is doing her own thang and it is working out just fine. And with backing from the Good Night Sleeps we never really had a chance did we?

If you are already a fan then bless your heart and if not, well let the blessings anoint you and cast a Scarlet fever in your heart of hearts. Check out the Coffee Break On The Road Current 88.3 session and the Magazine video directed by Dan Huiting below. Peace.

Lyrics:
Me and my baby, me and my bloodstyle, he got a hold on me. Me and my baby, me and my bloodstyle, he got a hold on me. Maybe I came for the wrong thing. Maybe I came just to break you down. I know some ladies like the thought of me breaking a man down but the real ones just know- they just know. Me and my baby, me and my bloodstyle, he got a hold on me. Stopping you was like starting the wrong way of moving on. Stopping you was moving me on. Stopping you was like starting the wrong way home but something is still getting me home. Me and my baby, me and my bloodstyle, he got a hold on me. Let me break it down for you: Stopping you was like starting the wrong way of moving on but I’m still moving on. Stopping you was like the starting the wrong way home but this mama here, she’s still getting home. Are you? Me and my baby, me and my bloodstyle, he got a hold on me.

Lyrics:
We got your bed made, we got your lemons squeezed, we got everything here that you could ever need. We got your bed made, we got your lemons squeezed, we got everything here. How could you ever leave? I was a woman. I was a woman from a magazine. When you saw me, all about me, on the stage you said you weren’t going back home ‘til you had me. And then the next day came; I was everything you ever wanted, every piece of me worth having you were on it. I know I gave it all away but a ladies gotta know when we’re playing those games. Baby how could you go up and leave me? Baby how could you go? We got your bed made, we got your lemons squeezed, we got everything here that you could ever need. We got your bed made, we got your lemons squeezed, we got everything here. How could you ever leave? I was a woman. I was a woman from a magazine.
