py // tripping on wisdom (free download)

Jade Elizabeth Pybus bka Py is a succubus of the highest order (compliment). She’s a Σειρήν too of phenomenal ability. She’s a daughter of Achelous. A soulful sister of the order Song of Seduction. This jewel box of a mixtape, Tripping On Wisdom is pretty catacombs and vox chocolat. It is labyrinth of spine tingly spells by which to ensnare us, so why fight it? Breton, Throwing Snow, Damu, Raffertie and Greenwood Sharps collectively they see it and hear it. Perhaps they’ve a muse, or perhaps it’s the other way round. Whatever and however, Py is here to stay and bless us with her radiantly adorned beauty of a voice. I am gladdened by her arrival into the world of music, and why you may wonder are so many are equally enthralled and rightly smitten? Check out her free mixtape Tripping On Wisdom available via Facebook . And if seeing is believing, after the jump lay your peepers upon the Simone Pellegrini directed visuals for Py’s song “Lungs”. Py is a bridge and a weaver. She takes the yarns of many genres and yes the tapestry is so soulfully sweet. Peace. Continue reading “py // tripping on wisdom (free download)”

the darlingtons // decades dance

The Darlingtons officially release their album today! However, a word of caution. Don’t even think about getting within earshot of this album without a proximity suit. Yeah, it’s that hot. No doubt this album will be one of the best of 2012 hands down. After the jump listen to the full album stream of Decades Dance, by the way these babies need to be played extremely loud for maximum results.  As the songs wash over you you’ll notice how every single track makes its way into the deepest recesses of your brain; and there it’ll stay lodged and rockin’ for, er… forever. Peace. Continue reading “the darlingtons // decades dance”

trentemøller // my dreams (ft. marie fisker) acoustic version

Danish indie-electronic impresario and artist Anders Trentemøller has debuted some brand spanking new moving pictures for the live acoustic version of “My Dreams.” This little gem of sound features the sultry vocals of previous  collaborator and acquaintance Marie Fisker, Trentemøller released “My Dreams” digitally and on 7″ for Record Store Day via his own In My Room label. The single is “a soft, euphoric pop-ambient cover of the bluesy 1984 rocker by influential Hollywood punks the Gun Club,” explains SPIN.com. Peace. florence welch + dev hynes // never let me go (Our Sunday Best)

It is hard to time-stamp the beautifully robust vocals of Florence Welch. Because, quite frankly hers is truly a unique and damn the cliché “timeless voice.” I mean really, try as I might I cannot imagine her in any era previous to this one. Yet, at the same time I can easily imagine her a thousand years from now still sounding like a contemporary of some far flung future pop. And if the original song, “Never Let Me Go” wasn’t already brain boner material as is, when you add Dev Hynes how can you expect mere mortals to function after rubbing up against such a musical coupling? You can’t and we won’t. This one was already divine; now it has a halo too and eyes with a slight devilish grin. Peace. NME magazine dubbed Gossip “The greatest punk rock’n’roll disco soul band on the planet”and that description is 100% on the money. Listen to the trios first single release “Perfect World” and it’s accompanying dBerrie remix. The highly danceable track is taken from the band’s forthcoming Brian Higgins produced A Joyful Noise the bands 4th studio LP. You can expect a May 22nd release, and of course you can pre-order the digital format via iTunes. karin park // restless (video premiere)

The music made by Karin Park is often complex in an neon-colored and electrified Rubik’s cube sort of way. However, the Olle Lundin-directed video for the song, “Restless,” is very, let’s say DYI. The song is taken from the forthcoming debut album Highwire Poetry due for release later this month. For a proper interview of the making of the Restless video, as well as, other goings on go to our friends at www.wonderlandmagazine.com. Peace. Alpines // Empire (Official Video)

Today we get a look at the wonderful Luke Losey-directed video “Empire,” from South London duo Alpines. And although the visuals are more than nice, what does it for me is Catherine Pockson‘s utterly grand hair-raising vocals. Enjoy. Peace.

fossil collective // let it go (official video)

Out of nowhere this band started following me on Twitter less than a day now. How they found my little corner of the universe is beyond me, but I am so glad these guys reached out to me. When I first started listening to the music I had no idea where they were from, but as I started listening to them I thought they sounded like the many great bands out of Portland or Seattle. Boy was I surprised when their Facebook fanpage revealed their locale as Leeds, UK! Just goes to show one mustn’t judge a bands longitude and latitude by their sound, it was a total (napkin please I’ve got a spot of egg on my face) moment. At any rate if you like bands like Blind Pilot, Fleet Foxes and Horsefeathers then my friend Fossil Collective just may be your cup of tea. By the way the band’s The Power of Love (Frankie Goes To Hollywood Cover) is totally gorgeous! Listening to it will make you an instant fan! By the way you can order the band’s Let It Go EP on iTunes. Peace. Continue reading “fossil collective // let it go (official video)”

Silversun Pickups // Neck Of The Woods

Dangerbird Records is excited to announce that the latest, and perhaps best, album by the Grammy-nominated Silversun Pickups, Neck of the Woods, has debuted at #6 on the Billboard Top 200, with nearly 41,000 units sold. This marks the highest chart position in the band’s career. Congrats! It’s always so nice to see the rest of the civilized world finally catching on to how talented this band really is. Just so you know the album can be had for a mere pittance on iTunes or Amazon. Peace. Continue reading “Silversun Pickups // Neck Of The Woods”
