things we like: feedbands

Some of the best things in life are a mere $19.95 a month.

What do you know about vinyl? For many a vinyl record is like distilling the soul of any music down into it’s bare essence, then shooting the experience through a needle and straight into your eardrum. Well, if that description sounds over-the-top, then forgive me my gratuitous metaphors. But it also happens to be closer to the truth than say E = mc2.

Over the past decade or so you may have noticed a resurgence; those black circular discs commonly known as vinyl records have made a not so quiet comeback and they are here to stay. And to a large extent (more often than not actually) your favorite obscure indie rock band is responsible for the (oftentimes) multicolored orbital regress. But, it’s not just because vinyl is cool, trendy or a fad, or something we’ll quickly grow bored of. Oh no, its not that kinda’ party.

If you’ve ever heard your aforementioned favorite obscure indie band channeling their spirit noise through what’s known as the “vinyl medium” then you know what I know, it is quite the sonic experience.

Enter stage right. Feedbands. After all this time Feedbands was just what I was looking for, using an innovative approach this company provides me with great indie bands right to my front door. Here’s how it works:

  • Listeners vote submissions using our Feedbands App via Apple or Google Play
  • Next, Feedbands presses bands to vinyl, based largely on voter submissions
  • They ship a new record to your door each month

I got my first record just over a month ago, and as soon as the needle dropped the band The Vliets (rhymes with “fleets”) jumped out of my speakers and into my living room. The Vliets are an electronic psychedelic synth band ‘outa Austin, Texas. Way cool experience. I feed bands and bands feed me great music, the perfect symbiotic relationship. Peace.
