dirty projectors // about to die (official video)

lavender diamond // incorruptible heart (album release september 25th) + everybody’s heart’s breaking now (official video)

the sophomore album release, incorruptible heart by the la-based lavender diamond is a collection of songs reminiscent of a sweet-smelling bouquet of wildflowers. the songs are ethereal and filled with a warm earthiness which lends itself to the autumn season, not so far of a departure from the groups beginnings in the bird songs of the bauharoque, the punk operetta inspired by the work of american painter/architect paul laffoley.

the albums opens with the delicate song, “everybody’s heart’s breaking now,” and becky stark‘s lithe soprano drains all the color from your heart. but, it is an apt song to set the tone for this tranquil slow-burn of an album. the next song, “dragonfly” speaks of birth as the beginning of death (poetic existentialism?), but it is also a wake-up call to live the life you’re given to the fullest. the album proceeds, or perhaps blooms into its fullness over and over again, songs fall petal by petal through a soft cacophony of wistful tomes, 12-songs and a few surprises. stand outs include, “i don’t recall,” “teach me how to waken” and “forgive“.

i’m certain you’ll discover your very own favorites too. incorruptible heart isn’t so much an album about discovery as it is the reflection of one’s past. a past marked by not only heartbreak, but lessons learned and experienced joys. lavender diamond have surely come into their own as a band, filled with maturity and a willingness to bare it all unflinchingly. you can pre-order incorruptible heart in various formats via www.lavenderdiamond.net.

the album drops september 25th. peace. Continue reading “lavender diamond // incorruptible heart (album release september 25th) + everybody’s heart’s breaking now (official video)”

lavender diamond // everybody’s heart’s breaking now (our sunday best)

la-based band lavender diamond creates the kind of songs which are perfect for anytime you want to chill out and de-stress after lords knows what. lead singer becky stark is in solid possession of such a lethally seductive soprano it compels one’s ears to filter out (even screaming babies and ambulance sirens) all other earthly sounds. the band is set to release their sophomore album incorruptible heart on september 25th via paracadute records.

dragonette // live in this city (video exclusive)

the generously gorgeous martina sorbara, and those two other human specimens (dan Kurtz and joel stouffer), no diss guys we just really like looking at ms. s with her pouty lips and doe-like eyes. anyway, what was i saying? oh i remember… canadian trio dragonette have a new video for their upbeat and vibrant song, “live in this city“. in it the band find themselves doing the street dance thing amongst other things. if you find yourself moving about to this one might i suggest heading over to the band’s website and streaming the whole lp? once there you can also pre-order their forthcoming album ‘bodyparts‘and peruse upcoming tour dates and generally get all up in the band’s biz. peace. the soft moon // insides

san francisco-based indie artist the soft moon (luis vasquez) is riding a tear in the 80’s post-punk space-time continuum (think joy d,  biz-hous to the iz-hous and love & the rocketeers (if you need a translation shoot me an e-mail) to great effect. listen to the tracks “insides” and “die life,” you can practically feel the layers of reality peeling away one layer of sonic perception at a time. both tracks will appear on the october 30th (us) and november 5th (ue) sophomore album release ‘zeros‘. this is a whole lot of electric voodoo for your ear space. peace. that’s no moon | according to ancient alien theorists

what, or rather who, it is is That’s No Moon. no, it’s not the four horsemen of the apocalypse, not even close. unless it all ends with a frenzy of utterly euphoric rock infused and electro tempered-pop noise, and in that case the champaign, illinois quartet that’s no moon fit the bill. via the label blue box records comes the band’s debut full-length and self-titled release that’s no moon  (← stream the entire album, just click the link). the album drops september 24th. however, you can also catch these pleasant, albeit vociferous noise makers at this years pygmalion music festival playing on the sleigh bells bill. peace.
