Tim Presley sheds his punk persona with his side-project White Fence to delve into something more rustic and dusted with 60’s folk/rock cool. It’s a pleasant mix of Bob Dylan meets The Beatles. Basically, it’s something old made new again and that is as much a compliment as I can come up with right now. And by the way, I’m sending this one out to a fellow Beatles fan, Ms. Aston E. and if your reading this I hope you smile a mile wide. Peace. Continue reading “White Fence / / It Will Never Be”
the ting tings // soul killing
Jules De Martino and Katie White definitely have a good thing going, especially with the mega awesome Sounds From Nowheresville LP on their hands. My ears are finicky listeners but they’ve practically salivating for much more when I play the latest from The Ting Tings. This new joint is practically jumping off the player and onto the dance floor. Now, here is my disclaimer, if you break something while dancing to this I am not liable. Check out the “Hang It Up” Banana Dynamite Remix plus more after the jump. Peace. Continue reading “the ting tings // soul killing”
perfume genius / / hood + normal song + dark parts

As always, there exists much fragility in the world and the songs of Perfume Genius not only embody those easily broken parts of the human heart and soul; they expand upon them in the role of one who has endured much. When I first listened to the musical renderings of 26-year-old Seattle resident Mike Hadrea I was at once struck, not only by the beauty of the songs, but also the very raw and uncontrived nature of Mr. Hadrea’s voice, for it is the voice that conveys the pain and exposed nerve endings of one whose felt much the dark underpinnings of heartache. Listen to the songs, “Hood”, “Normal Song” and “Dark Parts” all of which are taken from the album Put Your Back N 2 It (2012). I’m certain you’ll love them enough to want them all for yourself as salve against the small meteors that assail one’s existence from time to time. Peace. wild belle // keep you
Chicago-based brother/sister duo Wild Belle (Natalie Bergman & Elliot Bergman) take dancehall/reggae to a whole new flavor level (think golden-sunshine-cosmic-mango) and it’s so tasty to your ears, kinda like a frosty Red Stripe with sonic implications. The song “Keep You” will put you in the right mood with it’s sunshine bubblyness and Caribbean groove. You can get your own addictive ray of musical sunshine that is “Keep You” on iTunes. Peace. the lighthouse and the whaler // burst apart
The music made by The Lighthouse And The Whaler makes you care about it, even if you didn’t want to. This Cleveland, Ohio band is a 5-piece ensemble, and every single song I’ve heard thus far sounds like something unexplored, yet familiar. These songs sound like baking bread, or the muted colors burnt and radiant spilling forth from a spectacular sunset. These guys make music like a sighing lover exhaling your name, and all the while trailing warm breath across your breastbone. Yes, this is sweetness and light territory for sure. I listened to their songs, “White Days”, “Window”, and “Of The Heavens And The Earth” and I found myself not wanting to leave them alone. I got lost within these melodies. I was comfortable and I didn’t want to venture anywhere else. Their latest single, “Burst Apart” moves across your earlobe like a minnow, it tickles and it is innocent of the knowledge of darker things to come. TLATW‘s forthcoming Pioneers EP is scheduled for a March 13th release and you can pre-order it at www.thelighthouseandthewhaler.com. And surely you didn’t think the only good things in Cleveland was the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Hot Dog Diner & Burger Co? Shame on you. Peace. chromatics // candy (official video)
And the Chromatics just keep ’em coming, which is seriously just peaches and cream for me. Here, I’ve got the 4th single “Candy” from Kill For Love. Still no official details regarding a release date. After the jump listen and watch the Alberto Rossini directed video and let Ruth Radelet‘s tale up there. I’ve also included the “Lady” video as well, so stay for a bit and chill. Peace. Continue reading “chromatics // candy (official video)”
Dirty Ghosts // Shout It In
Allyson Baker has been on a musical journey, and it has led her from the northern environs of Canada to San Francisco, CA. Along the way her sound has morphed not a few times. Now, gone is most of her early punk influences, at least sonically speaking (Ms. Baker’s look is still unabashedly punk-rocker girl, albeit a kinder and gentler version). These days Dirty Ghosts finds a home somewhere in-between a R&B vibe and stealthy Funk-Pop machinations. Doesn’t matter what you call it really, because Dirty Ghosts works. Turn it on and you’ll witness how this track enlivens any space it is set free to roam. The song, “Shout It In” is laden with swag galore. And although this song my not be consciously trying to get into your pants, it will. Coupled with a blatantly nasty groove as a wing-man they’ll get your ass moving in no time. Dirty Ghosts latest LP Metal Moon is available now, and if you skedaddle over to the bands Facebook you’ll get a Free Download for “Shout It In”. I got mine (and I’m not sharing), now you get yours. Peace. Continue reading “Dirty Ghosts // Shout It In”
Married To The Sea // Mutiny
You know you got a good bunch of friends when they’re suggesting such good music as that put out by Married To The Sea and their latest Pack Xerxes EP. Now I’m not sure if the album title is a reference to the Persian ruler of long ago (See the movie 300). But I do know this, I like the two tracks I’ve heard thus far, “Mutiny” and “Crash Hams,” and yes they resonate at very pleasurable wavelengths (“Crash Hams”). For more of this excellent band check out their SoundCloud. Peace. Continue reading “Married To The Sea // Mutiny”
Spring Offensive // Carrier
Nothing like a little dark song to make you feel better, right? The 5-piece band Spring Offensive from Oxford, U.K. have honed melancholy to a razor’s edge with their latest offering “Carrier.” And not only should you thank lead vocalist Lucas Whitworth for his beautifully maudlin delivery, but video director Nicky Davidson should get a nod too. And if you’re one of our many fans in the U.K. do yourself a huge favor and check them out in person. After the jump you’ll find the latest video and tour schedule. Peace. L-Vis 1990 // Tonight (Video)
“In real love you want the other person’s good. In romantic love you want the other person.” —Margaret Anderson
Here’s the deal, in real life James Connolly is madly in love, perhaps enthralled, with his real life girlfriend. Awww so sweet, right? It’s all good! Except, when James Connolly expresses himself, you better watch out, because the long shadows of his thinking cat will engulf everything, and his creations are mostly known for inducing revelers to dance and party the night away.
And so, in the vein of love we find James C. paying homage to such iconic celluloid road trip films like True Romance, Paris Texas and Wild at Heart, London-based producer/DJ James Connolly bka L-Vis 1990 has outdone himself with the video premiere of “Tonight” (Ft. Samantha Lim). This video isn’t just ‘a video’, it is a furtherance of the previous video for “Lost In Love”(Ft. Javeon McCarthy). This couplet of images propels the idea of love continuously forward. It is a love story represented by real-life couple Cindy & Chachi (18 and 19 respectively) and their on-screen journey to the magical mecca of Vegas to get married. These videos are tributes to love and spontaneity, bruised innocence and flagging naïveté, and the enduring idea of two souls hitched together in the paradise of a universe of their own making. If you’ve been in love you’ll get it. But, if you haven’t known the effects of the inebriating cocktail of romantic love, then I charge you to most definitely ‘go there’. Live a little and love a lot. Peace. Continue reading “L-Vis 1990 // Tonight (Video)”
