The official Johnny Woods-directed/animated video for Brave Motion from Hands, is a full-blown color smeared action movie montage (by the way, love the care crashing in the helicopter). The song hails from the debut LP Synesthesia out now courtesy of Kill Rock Stars Records. Is it me or does the guitar on this song echo that of Jonny Greenwood’s work on Radiohead’s Weird Fishes Arpeggi? Peace. Continue reading “hands // brave motion + official video”
sibille attar // julian i want to be a dancer
At times the unorthodox approach can yield unusually tantalizing results. Sibille Attar is an apt example of the quirky and offbeat set to music, but what music it is! The Stockholm-based musical roustabout chants her brand of sonic voodoo with the voice of a classically trained chanteuse (seemingly so). Her music is alive with a vibrancy I’m growing more and more partial to with every listen. Julian I Want To Be A Dancer is crisp as a new dew strewn day, and as bouncy as a bumble bee, fat and flying flower head to flower head. Check it out. Peace. say lou lou // fool of me (ft. chet faker)

Allow me to introduce your ears to the the Australian/Swedish twins (Miranda and Elektra Kilbey) duo Say Lou Lou. Recently the ladies released their Julian EP single: a-side Julian & the b-side Fool Of Me Ft. Chet Faker via their newly minted label à Deux.
While the former track Julian is good enough, it is the b-side track Fool Of Me Ft. Chet Faker which demands your attention. Fool Of Me is Absinthe garnished with a muddled heart, and served with the shaky hand of an unkind fate. The instrumentation is misleading too, while managing to be both bouyant and somber conjointly, with scant striations of ambient noise like a faulty pulse heralding love’s end. This song is clearly Morse Code shedding it’s S.O.S. within trails of tear stain. And then there’s Chet Faker threading his gaunt vocals with masculine discontent, and reckless honesty, “I’ve been told, I am cold, been known to sting. Forgive me I have sinned. See the eyes burn too, I’m a brute shooting from the hip straight into your heart…it’s ok they’re be plenty more.” What a fils de bast!
The rumor mill is working overtime, projecting an LP from Say Lou Lou sometime this summer. My finger bones are crossed, are yours? Also, I’ve included last year’s video for the track Maybe You from their EP courtesy of Kitsuné Records. Peace. Continue reading “say lou lou // fool of me (ft. chet faker)”
amateur best // pleased
One-man band Amateur Best (Joe Flory) does it all. Mr. Flory writes, produces and plays all the instruments, and he also handles the details of the visual artwork surrounding his musical projects. I like the DIY approach, and in the case of Amateur Best and the song Pleased the results are quite agreeable to my eardrums. The Amateur Best debut LP No Thrills is out now via Double Denim Records. Peace. Continue reading “amateur best // pleased”
brave motion // hands

The four-piece band of the Summer 2013 will likely be Hands. Any band that can take the best parts of indie music scene and build such a monster sound is bound to amass a huge following. The track Brave Motion is awash with an herculean sonic force which will leave you not only breathless, but hungry for more. I haven’t heard the whole album yet, but if the songs, Brave Motion and Trouble are any indication of what’s lurking on their debut LP, Synesthesia, courtesy of Kill Rock Stars, then count me in. You can cop the new album on Bandcamp. Peace. Continue reading “brave motion // hands”

baby alpaca // sea of dreams

Brooklyn, NYC-based Baby Alpaca (Chris Kittrell, Robert Philips and Zach McMillan) is perfectly suited for lazy days spent curled up with a warm blanket of melancholy. And if you like your music dreamy and woefully sweet then listen to Sea Of Dreams, and keep you ears on the look out for their forthcoming EP via music label Atlas Chair, it drops June 25th.

heyrocco // elsewhere

Hailing from Charleston, South Carolina Heyrocco brings the noise with a blend of rowdy post-punk rock tempered with an effortless Pop coolness. Stylistically I am immanently reminded of Two Door Cinema Club, but it’s all good. The band’s single Elsewhere dropped a few months ago, but check out the band’s debut 2012 release Comfort. tv girl // if you want it

Agreed it’s been a long minute since we’ve had the pleasure of hearing something new from San Diego, CA-based duo TV Girl (they’re mixtape The Wild, The Innocent, The TV Shuffle (2012) was a total gas)but that doesn’t mean they (Trung Ngo and Brad Petering) aren’t hard at work. According to sources they have a new EP coming out soon, not to mention the spectacular Coma Cinema they’ve helped record. Check this, whilst we wait, albeit impatiently, for the new songs the duo has put together a Spring Break playlist for Found Footage Mag. After the jump check out one of all time TV Girl tracks from yesteryear. Peace. Continue reading “tv girl // if you want it”
