blake mills // curable disease: yours truly session (our sunday best)
i have been an ardent fan of guitar prodigy/multi-instrumentalist/singer and songwriter blake mills since i discovered his beautiful music nearly a year ago. so, it is with great pleasure that i present to you the song, “curable disease” via a ‘yours truly session’, which puts on display why so many are so intrigued by this rising musician. if you haven’t check out his debut release ‘break mirrors‘ (2010). currently blake is out on tour with fionna apple. and for those lucky souls residing in the san francisco area you can catch blake mills playing with his former bandmates (dawes) at the independent december 30th and 31st. peace. king krule // rock bottom
i have been so intrigued with the singer/songwriter king krule for some time now, and with each new song it is easy to see the grow and sonic expansion of this young london artist. today i got another wonderfully jangly tune, “rock bottom” and it’s filled with frenetic energy and personal accolades spun around archy marshall‘s unique vocals. this track is taken from his double a-side single out now via rinse. peace. night moves // colored emotions
Night Moves is a band that sounds like something both familiar and comforting. The band’s debut album ‘Colored Emotions’ is nothing but song after song of exemplary music. After the jump take a listen and tell me I’m wrong. I dare you. Peace. Continue reading “night moves // colored emotions”
metz // headache
when a guitar driven band with a four piece drum dreams of a serious go at rock stardom they play pretty much whenever and wherever they can: dimly lit basements, skate shops and a whole lot of gritty bars and clubs are standard issue. and the end result may turn into what the canadian three-piece rockers metz have going on right now. metz marks a return to rock served up with heaping loads of distortion splattered all over walls, ceilings and eardrums wherever rock junkies gather to get their beer fueled party on. check out the song, “headache” complete with everything a rock track should be. peace. the band’s self-titled album dropped this month via sub pop records. peace. Continue reading “metz // headache”
ducktails // the flower lane
real estate alum-matt mondale will soon release his latest solo project under the name ducktails. and although the name may be a bit irregular the noise from the coming album ‘the flower lane’ via domino records (drops january 29th)is anything but. listen to the song, “the flower lane” and experience a bit of indie style emo served over a soft bed of moon dream. after four prior releases one can definitely hear the growth and maturity, and it sounds as if everything is in its right place. peace. the eversons // with a little help from my friends
in the rough and tumble world of today nothing says appreciation like a tribute album (hey, who doesn’t want to feel pretty and special?) so, a whole passel of folks with good intentions got together to honor the new zealand band the eversons (it was a tough job, but dammit someone had to do it). on this release you’ll hear various artists, i.e., princess chelsea, the boa constrictors, street chant and a few others do their best to do justice to the most excellent songwriting of the eversons. oh yeah, i’m talking about the ‘with a little help from my friends’ ep and it’s a free download. my favorite of the lot is the somber ode, “why can’t you just be happy for me?”. check it out the everson’s on lil’chief records. also, since we’re on the subject, the eversons debut album ‘summer feeling‘ is out now for your rapacious musical consumption. i had a listen and i must say its pretty damn good stuff. peace. tame impala // lonerism (our sunday best)
there is so much buzz circling the perth, australia band tame impala right currently you just might assume they are the hardest working worker bees in the colony. band helmsman kevin parker and company dropped the band lonerism lp a few days ago (october 9th) and so far anyone who’s listened to it are all in and giving it two thumbs up. but, with songs like, “elephant” and the phenomenally psychedelic and beautiful rock gem, “apocalypse dream,” it doesn’t surprise me at all. this release will def go down as one of the best albums of 2012, and you can cop a copy right here on itunes. peace. the babies // get lost
kevin morby, cassie ramone, justin sullivan, and brian schleyer have this little band called the babies, and while the name may sound, well…infantile their music is assuredly not. listen to their track, “get lost” and right away you get the feeling this band is about wild raucous abandon. this is party music; the bar hopping-beer-swilling-cigarette-smoke-infused kind. the song “get lost” is the 1st single release from the band’s forthcoming lp which shares the same name. also, check out the song, “miracle mile” taken from the band’s anticipated sophomore release, our house on the hill. after the jump you can check out tour dates and figure out how you can get yourself there, i promise it’ll be a good time. peace.
