It isn’t fair nor it is an easy task to try to put the band Múm into any one category, so I won’t. Especially, when they are so much more than just another Icelandic pop band. In terms of their position in the wide and ever evolving constellation of music these folk hold a singular place in my heart. Not many bands are so expansive, in that Múm will touch your heart and your head simultaneously. On June 1st the band released a compilation of material ranging from 1998-2000 (roughly), and it is beyond wonderful. I have two treats for you after the jump. One is a new video for “Hvernig Á Að Særa Vini Sína” (How to Hurt Your Friends) directed by Máni M. Sigfússon. Secondly, I have a new (downloadable) single entitled “0,000Orð“. The latter track is all kinds of dreamy accoutrement, the kind which makes perfect accompaniment to a (sought after) tranquil existence. Peace. Continue reading “múm // early birds”

Call it what you want, neo-R&B or fractious 80’s Pop with soft shards of ambient electric blue whispers thrown in for good measure. Somehow categorization isn’t as important has the music. Here the Brooklyn threesome Lemonade offers us ballads bathed in glowing radiant structure. The album is Diver and the song featured here is “Soft Kiss,” and it resonates with tangible afterglow. Also, after the jump let your eyes soak up the lush visuals of the trio’s “Neptune” video. So hot (I wanna be a leopard-print towel). Love it. By the way, you get the sensual album and soulful slice of listening paradise Diver on Amazon and iTunes. Peace. Continue reading “lemonade // soft kiss”

thad kopec // the ghost and the thief (Our Sunday Best)
Hailing from Ocala, Florida Thad Kopec crafts folksy pop odes perfectly suited for lazy days and introspective nights. Mr. Kopec is the consummate old soul cast into a young man’s body. And if you need further evidence, well listen to his track, “The Ghost And The Thief.” No doubt this young singer/songwriter is going places. I recommend you also check out his Soundcloud page for a ton of play worthy songs. I especially love what Thad has done with his cover of Lana Del Rey’s “Born To Die,” which I may just prefer over the original. You can purchase the “The Ghost And The Thief” single exclusively on iTunes. The undeniable artistry of Thad Kopec makes for an easy choice for Our Sunday Best. Peace. Cherub // XOXO (don winsley remix)
Perennial funksters (not hipsters) duo Jordan Kelley and Jason Huber bka Cherub are funky! Imagine if Rick James’ sweat was crystallized into pill form, dusted with the liquored breath of the best dance music available, then served piping hot between the sweaty thighs of R&B and Soul music personified in the form of Pam Grier in her heyday. Yes, it’s an image you won’t soon forget, and like the Don Winsley remix of “XOXO” it’s a track your ears aren’t likely to soon forget either. So go ahead, douse yourself in this vat of clarified soul essence, and they’ll be mopping up your puddled form off the dance floor as soon as the track ends. Peace.
