superhumanoids | too young for love

Pop open a chilled bottle of Parigot & Richard Crémant de Bourgogne for this one, and order some good take-out Chinese. The Los Angeles-based group Superhumanoids have a new song, “Too Young For Love” and everything SHnoids are known for; sensuously lush synths, earth angel lyrics, and this time out the sexy vocals of Sarah Chernoff. Yeah, it’s the good stuff from the quartets forthcoming new album EXHIBITIONISTS. I definitely raise my glass to this one. Peace. Continue reading “superhumanoids | too young for love”

Haim // Forever

With this group it is definitely a family affair and some guy. OK, not just some guy, his name is Dash Hutton, he’s the guy caressing the synth ever so commandingly. Then there are the girls? Well, they’re sisters; Alana, Danielle and Este of the cognomen Haim. As if the sister thingy weren’t novelty enough, these girls, i.e. women, play exceptionally good music. It’s the perfect blend of Pop music with something more edgy and off the beaten path. The music is sensuously, though modestly, vigorous and lusty. It doesn’t just pulse, it breathes steam into your ears. In essence, it jumps your bones and you’re so alright with its outright assertiveness. Check out the Haim’s sexy R&B/Calypso/Pop/Rock track “Forever” if this ain’t dirty dancing music, then I don’t know what species of sexy noise it is. Peace. Continue reading “Haim // Forever”

Moby // The Poison Tree (David Lynch Remix)

Without a shred of doubt Moby is a veritable sound messiah sent to aid in the deliverance of sub par musical choices. He leads us, rather melodically, out of the wasteland pop music purgatory and into the lofty heights of his very own refuge of musical bliss. Oh yeah, it’s like that and that’s just the way it is. Now, enter another indisputable icon, David Lynch. And really there is little left to say but enjoy and get your musical worship on. By the way, you get the “The Poison Tree (David Lynch Remix) as a FREE DOWNLOAD courtesy of my friends at RCRD LBL. Peace. Continue reading “Moby // The Poison Tree (David Lynch Remix)”

skrillex & damian “jr. gong” marley // make it bum dem

If you like the club scene and you like to dance until your feet holla’ stop gotdamnit! Then you can’t go wrong with a Skrillex collaboration, no way, no how. So, I’m bringing the party with two great selections. First up, the Skrillex & Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley, “Make It Bum Dem” and it’s hot like fire! And it doesn’t stop there, no way! Second, it’s Kaskade and Skrillex laying waste to the track, “Lick It”! Who says House and Dubstep can’t commingle and still bring it?! Peace. Beachwood Sparks // Myth

it breaks
silently
no a flood
but it dreams to be

these tears
are emotion
overflowing

these tears
are no myth.

According to Sub Pop Records’ Bud Scoppa, “Some albums were made to be played on a Saturday night. The Tarnished Gold LP by Los Angeles’  Beachwood Sparks is meant to be played on a Sunday afternoon. Listening to Beachwood Sparks’ first album in 11 years is like being under cobalt blue skies and smelling the night-blooming jasmine on a perfect spring day in Los Angeles.” Now, who can argue with that, except why limit your listening experience to a Sunday afternoon? And their utterly heart melting song, “Myth” well I’ll end with this. Some songs just start you thinking about moments. Moments suspended in time and melancholy. Hell, it even inspired me to pen the poem preceding this review. I hope it puts a wan smile upon your heart as well. The bands forthcoming album is scheduled to drop June the 26th. Peace. KO KO / / Float

Los Angeles-based band KO KO is just brimming with a vibe that pulls double-duty; it makes you smile and dance at the same time. The bands founders, Ryan Lawhorn and brother Taylor Lawhorn proclaim their music is a product of the perpetual sunny weather found in southern California. The band’s shiny brand new bubble-wrapped melody “Float” just makes you want to skip across the sky and taste the rainbow. I’ve also included a few more tracks taken from the bands three-track single release Float. Peace. Continue reading “KO KO / / Float”

Py & iO // Whispers

Jade Elizabeth Pybus bka as Py has been my “go to” chanteuse of choice as of late. And really it’s impossibly difficult not to like her, not that I’m trying “to not like her” either. You may have noticed that I keep posting songs on which Py appears. And you can expect more of the same in the future, hopefully to no one’s chagrin.  Basically, my ears do somersaults at the mere mention of her name, and I’m utterly and completely enthralled with the way she delivers her musical voice; her vocal range is caught somewhere in-between the whispery voice of an angel and the last drop of a very good red vine on the devil’s tongue. Badilicious. Listen to the song “Whispers” (Ft. iO) or get totally seduced by her contribution to the song “Moments” taken from When You’re Gone EP by Lapalux. Rock them both with the lights down low, it’ll be total afterglow. Peace. Continue reading “Py & iO // Whispers”

Air Tycoon / / Land Locked

There resides within the music of Air Tycoon poetry aplenty. Epic tomes stitched through with canticles and the laughter of mermaids frolicking amongst whitecaps and the cry of seagulls. There are arias too, beleaguered and redolent with beauteous moods, and deep within these sounds swirls nautiluses and the gossamer breath of long-winded eternity. Joe Garcia bka Air Tycoon is a young architect of audibles trills, an apprentice of the highest order, and he erects sonic edifices with little effort, yet with much meaning in the heart of the listener. I can only bow my head and offer a soul-felt thanks you. Peace. Continue reading “Air Tycoon / / Land Locked”

Soko // First Love Never Die

Yep, it’s official my ears are in a love/lust mode for the Los Angeles artiste Soko (Stéphanie Sokolinski) and her heart in a blender song “First Love Never Die” and if you don’t feel like taking this song to bed then you’re an eunuch or something equally androgynous or sexually inert. I’ll get my head out of the gutter as soon as you stop trying to steal my song. Yes, it’s one of those days. And if you long to have this one all to your self cop it on iTunes. Peace.
