quixotism // sooner

there is beauty for the taking if you are willing to venture off the beaten paths and stargaze with me. like a sunflower turn your ears to the sun, and know warmth. listening to the track, “sooner” by quixotism is a tactile sensual experience. your breathing will slow, and perhaps your eyes will glaze over with total euphoria. for more of this audible aphrodisiac, stream the 12-track (name your price) album on the band’s bandcamp page. this is a release ready-made for nighttime and flickering candlelight, and a warm body pressed up close wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing at all. peace. lavender diamond // incorruptible heart (album release september 25th) + everybody’s heart’s breaking now (official video)

the sophomore album release, incorruptible heart by the la-based lavender diamond is a collection of songs reminiscent of a sweet-smelling bouquet of wildflowers. the songs are ethereal and filled with a warm earthiness which lends itself to the autumn season, not so far of a departure from the groups beginnings in the bird songs of the bauharoque, the punk operetta inspired by the work of american painter/architect paul laffoley.

the albums opens with the delicate song, “everybody’s heart’s breaking now,” and becky stark‘s lithe soprano drains all the color from your heart. but, it is an apt song to set the tone for this tranquil slow-burn of an album. the next song, “dragonfly” speaks of birth as the beginning of death (poetic existentialism?), but it is also a wake-up call to live the life you’re given to the fullest. the album proceeds, or perhaps blooms into its fullness over and over again, songs fall petal by petal through a soft cacophony of wistful tomes, 12-songs and a few surprises. stand outs include, “i don’t recall,” “teach me how to waken” and “forgive“.

i’m certain you’ll discover your very own favorites too. incorruptible heart isn’t so much an album about discovery as it is the reflection of one’s past. a past marked by not only heartbreak, but lessons learned and experienced joys. lavender diamond have surely come into their own as a band, filled with maturity and a willingness to bare it all unflinchingly. you can pre-order incorruptible heart in various formats via www.lavenderdiamond.net.

the album drops september 25th. peace. Continue reading “lavender diamond // incorruptible heart (album release september 25th) + everybody’s heart’s breaking now (official video)”

saucy monky // listening to morrissey

what is your ideal of heaven? for many heaven can be pretty matter of fact: a bowl of macaroni of cheese for example. yet, for others it can be more abstract, less specific but still it looms there half-way between one’s subconscious and consciousness. my heaven (one of them), hey who says you gotta’ have just one idea of heaven? anyway, heaven for me involves music and the la-based band saucy monky have this little gem of a song, “listening to morrissey”. the song weaves tranquil melody with intelligent lyricism; two essential combinations which encourage a listener to click repeat over and over. for more, and i highly suggest you check out more, visit the band’s soundcloud, and while you at it watch their latest video for the song, “awkward” it’ll make you … feel things. peace. the neighborhood // i’m sorry… ep

West Coast (Los Angeles) band The Neighborhood makes music just right for relaxing and vibing out any day of the week. Take the songs, “Female Robbery” and “Sweater Weather”. Both are easy tracks to chillax to. No word on an official debut LP release yet. However, you can check out (and download) the band’s debut I’m Sorry … EP at www.thenbhd.com  or you can just cop it on iTunes. I’m keeping my phalanges crossed for a full-length album sometime soon. I suspect too you’ll be hearing a lot more of this darling band if you haven’t already. Peace. Continue reading “the neighborhood // i’m sorry… ep”

the hunting accident // parks and trees

“Every human being, even the youngest, is already old – that is, so close to death that he or she does not, in any case, have time to efface the accidental quality of the accidents of which his or her life is composed… We human beings are always more our accidents than our choice.” – Odo Marquard “In Defense Of The Accidental”

I lifted the above quote directly from the band The Hunting Accident‘s webpage. But alas, do not mark me thief just yet, because what I do I do for good reason dear one. In the main,, the quote describes us all, but for the band to select and present it as a sort of opening statement speaks volumes to a certain philosophy or acceptance of our inability to fully control anything, let alone our own haphazard destinies.  Yet, perhaps they’re just being clever. Whichever line of reasoning you select to adhere to is quite fine and dandy with moi. Yet, the quote holds true! For here we are, through no fault of our own: you, I, and The Hunting Accident have collided accidentally and wondrously to boot. And this utterly delightful intersection has bought us the bounty of their music. The band’s Trees And Parks 10″ is scheduled to drop July 17th via The New Black label. The songs are laden with punkish ferociousness tempered with rollicking keys and bursts of roguish guitar. After the jump listen to the songs “Aubergine” and “Parks And Trees” you’ll get the feel of barely contained angst and rebellion. The music gets up in your face with its swollen eyes, rent flesh and badge of honor bruises. But these songs are also the stories of us all, the good, the bad and the right of passage ugly ones. Peace.  Continue reading “the hunting accident // parks and trees”
