the weeknd // wicked games
The Weeknd has been building tremendous hype for the past couple of years. So naturally there is a great deal of anticipation for his debut trilogy album. Unfortunately, the minus is his debut release contains material we’ve already heard on his previous mixtapes. The positive, is the songs are remastered for this release. Yeah,it’s a small thing. but the big plus is the addition of three new songs, “Twenty Eight”, “Valerie” and “Till Dawn (Here Comes The Sun)”. You can cop the trilogy via itunes. peace. introducing …. cyril hahn
there are those awkward moments in life when words will fail you, and all you’ll need is some good music to seal the deal. and if you’re the lover you profess to be (at least in your own mind) you don’t want to disappoint. in times like these it will serve you well to have a rock-solid wing-man. and what’s better than a capable, yet sensual, mix of slightly stirred r&b to bring it on home.
let me introduce you to the switzerland expat (now residing in vancouver, canada) cyril hayn. without a shadow of a doubt mr. hahn has the remedy for your romantic musical selections. after the jump check out his latest gotta dance dirty guest mix, go ahead overindulge because it’s 100% total butta’. on this one you’ll here from a variety of r&b artists (and few unexpected surprises) who are known for getting the damn job done, also closing out this baby makin’ collection is the recent destiny’s child, “say my name (cyril hahn remix).
yeah, this young gun has a promising future no argument there. but for now just feel secure in the knowledge that for all your “lights out moments” cyril hahn, well … he got you. peace. Continue reading “introducing …. cyril hahn”
sarah williams white (sww) // your silence is killing me ep
i like surprises, don’t you? at times the most amazing things happen unexpectedly. case in point, the muse euterpe , you know the muse of song and music (according to olympian mythlogy), introduced me to the music of sarah williams white last night as I randomly searched for new and interesting music. needless to say i hit the jackpot. when one is in a quiet place, hearing sarah williams white for the first time is akin to listening to the inner most thoughts of suburbia reaching out it’s hand to the urban and different. it is also an artist traversing the fine line in-betwixt those two extremes and pulling it off adroitly.
although the ‘your silence is killing me’ ep was released via monosole on september 24th it doesn’t really matter. this is the second release for sww this year, the first being, “if smile at you/take your time“. at any rate, you can check both out after the jump, and you can cop the former on itunes. peace. ellie goulding // anything could happen (submerse remix)
for me the adoration of ms. ellie goulding started with her delicate voice as it sung earlier, and memorable tunes such as, “under the sheets” and the acoustic laden ode “wish i stayed”. but more recently, with her remake of the weeknd’s “high for this” i was smitten all over again. so it is with great anticipation i await the release of her forthcoming sophomore album ‘halcyon’. the album drops october 8th but you can pre-order it via itunes. peace. how to dress well // again (janet jackson cover)
Chicagoan Tom Krell is doing some of the best music of his career and under the name How To Dress Well he is sculpting his own brand of unique and wondrously sensual R&B. This time out HTDW has taken Ms. Jackson’s cautionary heartbreak ode, “Again” and channels it through his own tender heart. The results are nothing short of what the fans of HTDW (me included) have come to expect. You can get the song on the bonus 7″ for all pre-orders and you can cop it from Acéphale in North America and Weird World everywhere else. Peace. how to dress well // cold nights
There are many elements to admire about the songs How To Dress Well produces. For starters, it’s the music. Which is all soft atmospheric orchestration, allowing the listener to let go and succumb to a thing of shameless, albeit, shy beauty. Then there is Tom Krell. He looks the bookish type, but there is a sultry R&B heart beating lustily beneath his unassuming exterior. I think inadvertently it’s part of what makes HTDW so interesting. That outward projection of the nerdy arty, and maybe a bit socially awkward persona is perhaps a visual sleight of hand. Most people see this image and formulate a knee-jerk opinion. But, when Mr. Krell sits behind his instruments and opens his mouth all kinds of wonderful things happen. And the old adage, “Don’t judge a book by its cover” slaps them up side their judgmental heads. In the end the whole package comes together, providing ample unconventional love songs.
So, whether you’re putting the finishing touches on an artful seduction or just basking within the night-time radiance of “Cold Nights” or “Ocean Floor For Everything” you will find comfort and romance in healthy virile abundance. By the way, the forthcoming LP Total Loss drops September 17th via Domino Records. Peace. Continue reading “how to dress well // cold nights”
