Escapologists // Conscience Or Regret *Video

From Nottingham, UK there’s a trio of guys playing a brand of alt-rock clinging to the underbelly of distant rumbling thunder and far off smouldering fires. The guys are
Neil Wells (bass/keys/vocals), Pete Fletcher (guitar), Nick Davis (guitar/keys) and they are known collectively as the Escapologists. Their first single “Conscience Or Regret” from the bands January 2012 release Fireworks is presented in fine video form. And although this particular song is a bit of a departure from earlier material, with more synths and a tad more upbeat, it’s nonetheless a good start. I am looking forward to listening to more of what this subtlety atmospheric band has to offer. I’ve got more tragically hip examples of why I love this band after the jump, and please do enjoy. Peace. Continue reading “Escapologists // Conscience Or Regret *Video”

LA // KVLKD / / Taj Mahal *Video

The Etienne Perrin directed video “Taj Mahal” for rock/electro band La//KVLKD is not so surreptitiously a visual reference to Leonardo Da Vinci’s most famous painting. Yet, it’s not the only obvious occurrence here either. Take the music for example. La//KVLKD have taken two different sounds (rock & electro) and smashed them together gorgeously. And if you thought the song “Taj Mahal” was good, then check out the band’s song “Banderoles” it’ll hit you in all the right places and “Symptoms” is just sonically delicious. Peace. Severin / / Everything Breaks EP / / Macabea *Video

Perhaps when the sun sets is when Danny Sanchez and Elizabeth Anne Martin shine brightest. It’s an odd, yet totally mesmerizing music this duo makes. It’s skittish and naughty, not as playful as most electro music you may be familiar with, but just as enjoyable. Especially, after you’ve imbibed your chosen elixir and are laying next to your chosen “friend” for an intimate evening of … well, you fill in the blank. The music of Severin is more akin to the murkier dungeons within one’s mind, not accustomed to much light and totally comfortable luxuriating or basking in the dimness on your darker secrets. It is totally appropriate, and highly suggested that you wait until nightfall to begin your journey into their Everything Breaks EP, and although it doesn’t officially drop until March 19th you can have a listen after the jump. And for an in-depth interview about the origins of Severin check out their interview at www.londontheinsidemusic.com. Peace. Continue reading “Severin / / Everything Breaks EP / / Macabea *Video”

Beast Make Bomb // Zombie Song + Coney Island (Video)

There is a whole heap of hustle in the post/punk/pop groove wave that is Brooklyn-based band Beast Make Bomb, and it’s all good. Good like “good weed” or “good porn,” are ya feelin me now? Firstly, I am so tangled up in lead song-spitter Ceci G‘s (G = Gomez) vocals (and tangled up in her voice is where I’d like to stay), think crystalline shards of lightning stitched through with mellifluous rant. And then there is the frenetic free-range guitar courtesy of Ms. Glenn VanDyke (Ms. Gomez throws in some mean guitar rabbit-punches too).  Mr. Hartley Lewis wails majestically on the skins (and looks like a wildish warrior warlock while doing it), meanwhile Sam Goldfine channels beauteous testosterone laden low-register sonics on the bass. The bands kaleidoscopic patchwork of sound does the body good.  In that, once the music of BMB is cranked way up to 11, you better toss all your earthly worries to the wind and just rock the fuck out!  Check out my favorite, “Zombie Song,” it’s the last track on the BMB‘s mini-LP Skinny Legs. And for good measure, and because the music is so devilishly good, I’ve also throw in the band’s latest Sourpuss EP. Love it and it’ll love you right back, promise. Peace. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs // Tapes & Money

Orlando Higginbottom transformed himself into Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and the dance music scene is no longer as they were. TEED has taken old school house music and breathed into it the chillness of Space Ghost with the  stylistic panache of a graffiti artist. No this isn’t hauteur hipness anywhere with this guy, his music is for the masses. Check out his latest, the David Terranova directed video for his new single “Tapes & Money” and look for the  new single release April 2, 2012. Peace.  Continue reading “Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs // Tapes & Money”

chromatics // candy (official video)

And the Chromatics just keep ’em coming, which is seriously just peaches and cream for me. Here, I’ve got the 4th single “Candy” from Kill For Love. Still no official details regarding a release date. After the jump listen and watch the Alberto Rossini directed video and let Ruth Radelet‘s tale up there. I’ve also included the “Lady” video as well, so stay for a bit and chill. Peace. Continue reading “chromatics // candy (official video)”

The Shins // Bait And Switch (Video)

I so glad James Mercer and Co. (The Shins) are so generous with the music, the videos and whatever else they’ve thrown our way. Here, we have another glimpse of what to we can expect from the forthcoming Port Of Morrow LP. On this visual of “Bait And switch” we are treated to The Shins performing live and it’s a most beautiful thing indeed. Is it me, or does James Mercer have one the coolest singing voices, EVER! Make sure you mark you time-keeping devices for March 20th, or course it’s important, that’s the day The Shins release Port Of Morrow to the world. And if you haven’t you can most definitely Pre-Order it HERE. Peace. Continue reading “The Shins // Bait And Switch (Video)”

iamamiwhoami // sever // drops // Video

When watching or listening to the audio/visual projects of iamamiwhoami right away you know you’ve stumbled off the beaten path, and so far it’s a good thing. Here, in the artsy landscape of iamamiwhoami you’re constantly discovering something, if not special, then at a bare minimum interesting. Swedish singer/songwriter, and dare I say performance artist, Jonna Lee appears to have tapped into a fantastical world where reality is highly stylized and emotionally revelatory. It isn’t a hard guess to determine that many how the works are concerned about facing one’s fears and being vulnerable. And in this latest round of songs/videos we are treated to a barely clad (vulnerable)  JL and she’s bringing an entire arsenal of emotion to bare. Immediately you get a sense of barely restrained trepidation, and that better days are long past and longed for. Then there is the matter of the hairy beast man thingy and it’s right out of a Jeff Soto painting. What does its presence represent? Fear? Undefined desires? Indecisiveness? I suppose the proper artsy response would be to interpret, or intuit it in whatever way you want to. And so we’ll leave it right there. Enjoy this duo of videos, and come back and visit again for the next installment of corresponding acts, the songs/videos “good worker” and “play” will be out soon. And, you we can anticipate the album Kin, which is scheduled for a June 11th release. Peace.  Continue reading “iamamiwhoami // sever // drops // Video”

nina kraviz // ghetto kraviz

Even if Muscovite Nina Kraviz wasn’t scintillately hot would I still gravitate towards her music? Hell YES! Although she is quite the eye-candy, it her skills as a DJ/Producer/Vocalist that’ll keep you drooling on dance floors or in the comfy confines of your very own chill pad (hopefully not alone). Ms. Kraviz’s sound is a pleasant mix of bare-bones house, the old school Detroit house variety. Throw in a smidgin of R&B, add Nina’s adroit and honey dripping vocals and you got an album to be reckoned with. I know you’re feeling this, so cop it at iTunes. Peace.
