dale earnhardt jr. jr. // if you didn’t see me (then you weren’t on the dancefloor) + data remix

They’re busy penning the Detroit comeback theme music as we speak. Can’t wait to hear it.

dale earnhardt jr. jr.   //  if you didn’t see me (then you weren’t on the dancefloor)

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. gets major props for not only making such a stylish song, but musically speaking the track If You Didn’t See (Then You Weren’t On The Dancefloor) kicks the damn door open and hacks into your circadian rhythms. So, if you’re dreaming of magic dye-dyed disco balls whilst wide awake and dancing now you know why. The Detroit-ers dropped their Patterns EP earlier this year, they’re are four tracks on the EP and IF You Didn’t See Me is the crown jewel of the lot. Peace.

selebrities /// lovely things lp

The NYC band Selebritites are just good to have around just in case you need something to smile about.

selebrities /// lovely things lp

Brooklyn’s Selebrities return with their anticipated second album, Lovely Things. Known for their ability to capture the sound of an optimistic and neon splashed New York, the band shows a softer, subtler side to their songwriting with the new material. Tracks like Found and Fell to Earth are pensive musings on the impact of relationships, whereas Temporary Touch and I Could Change are bouncier-style jams that Selebs’ fans adore.

The Lovely Things LP is a mature and finely-tuned affair from an act that travels confidently in their own lane. Peace.

royal teeth // glow lp + video

A group love never sounded so darn good.

royal teeth  //   glow lp

If all music tells a story, then Royal Teeth’s joyous, inspired songs spin an exuberant tale of possibility, each note conveying the youthful excitement of venturing out into the great wide world. The songs on the band’s debut album, Glow (courtesy of Dangerbird Records), were penned around the idea of exploration and spirited adventures into the unknown, and its 12 tracks lay out a kaleidoscopic narrative of discovery.

phox | confetti ep

A band of maniacal musicians of the highest and most talented order.

phox // confetti ep

If indeed two is company and three’s a crowd, then six must naturally be a circus troupe. The supernaturally fun musical phenomenon from Baraboo, Wisconsin is none other than PHOX. This band packs more ruckus and beatific arrangement into a song than is scientifically possible, or at least we thought not. The music is trippy and traipsing, with the vocals sung out like proclamations from on high. And thank you so very much Ms. Monica Martin for opening your mouth and letting fly the honey-spun melodies which are a captivating and gorgeously morass if I ever heard one. Never have I heard a voice in possession of both the light and airiness of hopefulness and the heavy laden anchor of sorrowful blue with worry lines aplenty; a voice of braided dichotomy.

The band’s 2013 release Confetti EP is a 6-song mini LP masquerading as an EP (it is so much more grandiose, sonically speaking, than a mere EP), and it is as adorable as calico space kittens decked out in Teletubbies onesies. After the jump click play and marvel as the music Crip-dances delicately upon your eardrum. In my opinion, if ever a band was destined for greatness this one is a sure bet. Peace.

maps // a.m.a. + official video

 maps // a.m.a. + official video

Shot in sun drenched Spain and directed by Alan Masferrer, the video perfectly captures the dreamy summery mood of A.M.A..

A.M.A. is out now on limited edition Rough Trade 12” and download, with remixes from the Norwegian songwriter Susanne Sundfør who has collaborated previously with MAPS and recently featured on the M83 soundtrack for the film Oblivion; Dutch electronic artist Legowelt and fellow Mercury nominees The Invisible alongside a remix from MAPS himself.

The latest LP Vicissitude focuses, tightens and sharpens MAPS’ expansive sound. The album might have been born from a long period of self-contemplation, but maybe you do need a while to get simple answers to the difficult questions. Time to face the light. Peace.

phoenix // trying to be cool + a-trak remix = free download

phoenix  //  trying to be cool + a-trak remix

As if the French band Phoenix needed any help, right? Anywho, the band has their song Trying To Be Cool retooled by the stylistically cool and musically prolific Canadian  A-Trak. There are also a couple of other laudable remixes of the TTBC track by Soul Clap and Breakbot. And if your in mood for the original un-besmirched version I got the video after the jump too. The latest Phoenix album is out now via Glassnote (U.S.) and Loyauté (Worldwide). Peace.
